Turnt Up or Learnt Up

As my alarm was going off this morning and I was waking up to start my day, Brad rolls over - thoroughly confused - and questions why I would be up before 6am....Bradley, honey, it's Monday, not Sunday. So yeah, happy Monday everyone! Let's link up with Katie Que and share what we learned, shall we?!

//Did anyone else know that a camel with two humps is named a Dromedary ? Because I didn't, but naturally Brad did and gave me a hard time when I didn't know what he was talking about. I'm sorry? ----UPDATE: So, apparently Dromedary camels are the ones with only one hump, Bactrains have two humps. Brad was wrong, but also still kind of right because he even knew the word Dromedary.

//Friday workouts at the office make me feel less guilty about eating my body weight in sushi for dinner.

//Spilling your entire glass of water on the floor, your feet, your purse, and your crotch while out to dinner is cold and a embarrassing. It will also take your jeans a long time to dry after you have spilled said water.

//I have not forgotten any of the worlds to the movie GreaseYou better shape up... Cause I need a mannnnn.

//Went to an actual Yoga class with other people on Sunday morning. Yoga is still hard.

//Cleaning on a Sunday weirdly makes me happy.

//Vacuuming your stairs is a cardio and ab workout.

//Wine with dinner on a Sunday evening was pretty much is the highlight of my weekend.

//My new coffee mug is the tits. I probably should not use the words tits to describe things on my blog. Too late.

//Timbers' games in the sun are much more enjoyable than in the rain.

//Scratch that - these shoes I got as a just because gift were the highlight of my weekend.

I miss the weekend already!

oh tuesday

Oh Hey Tuesday,

Glad you stopped by. I just decided to act like Monday wasn't a real thing. Instead I took the day off and went wine tasting with Brad and his parents while they are still here for a few more days. The weather was perfect, the wine was lovely, but most importantly I got to play with my camera at each vineyard. Now of course I was not on top of my life and the photos are still on my camera, but that is neither here nor there.

I will leave you with a few iphone photos from this weekend to make up for leaving you yesterday and being unprepared today. Lazy as sheet. You're welcome.

Don't worry I was caught taking this selfie at the Timbers' game. The gal offered to take it for me. I got awkward. surprise, surprise

Holy Moly. Mother's you are worth the hype and the wait. Gawd, the Wild Salmon Hash I had was phenomenal.

Almost as phenomenal as the weather during wine tasting yesterday.

Lastly, if you're making this pumpkin bread from Trader Joe's without the chocolate chipies, you're doing it wrong.

Ok, this post was pathetic. Sorry for wasting your time. I will be done now.

babbles does brewcycle

So the old college roomies got together this past weekend for some roomie shenanigans (Sami would be proud). Except our shenanigans were not really that shenanigany it's a real word, I googled it. We have come to realize we are kind of old and boring these days when it comes to going out late and that kind of thing. With that being said, we had what might be one the best weekends I have had in a while. Sleepovers were had, BrewCycles took place, and lots of bacon was eaten.
More on this BrewCycle thing. I have seen people peddling around Portland on it before, but had never experienced it until this weekend. Basically like the picture above shows. It's a HUGE bicycle that fits like 15 people and you bike to different breweries around town.

For our cycle we hit up Old Town Pizza, Pints, and finished at Bridgeport Brewery. Best news was I didn't drink much so I didn't get sick the next morning. Pretty sure I might be allergic to alcohol or something, which isn't a horrible thing since I don't need to be drinking a lot anyway...But I did get my pedal on. Some of the cyclist might not have been pulling their weight, but my old roomie Brittany and I got us there in a timely fashion.

Gangs all here! It was so nice to have the group back together. Since some of us live in Seattle and some of us live in Portland it's a little hard to get all the schedules to work together, but when it does workout, it's magical.

Finished up the weekend with a soggy Timbers game. We have had crazy rain all weekend. Something about the tail end of a typhoon from Japan? I don't really know. What I do know is, there has been a lot of rain and a lot of wind. UGH, I am not ready for you dead of winter. Where is my perfect Fall weather?

Anyways, that's all she wrote. Duces.

weekend shanans

Oh hello there, Monday.  Fancy seeing you already.  You sure came nice and early this morning after the Timbers' game last night. The game didn't even start until close to 8pm.  This girl is usually on the couch with a blankie by then counting down the time it is considered acceptable to actually go to bed. Oh well, they won so it was worth it - even though it was freezing.  Oregon really needs to get its act together on the weather side of things.

I enjoy going to Timbers' games, but if the weather doesn't start getting nicer, imma get a little testy.

Does anyone else take Timber's Army selfies?! No?! Just me?! Cool.

They won. I was impressed.

Yes, in case you were wondering, the rest of my life weekend more or less revolved around sports.

Saturday and Sunday was spent watching my boyfriend Adam Scott win the Masters. Luckily, my parents and brother were up this weekend visiting my grandparents so I got to watch it with all of them.

Look at that smile. He is an Aussie, too. So the accent is real nice.

I did sneak some shopping in with my friend Justine and then later with my sister, Mom, and Grandma on Saturday, too.  It was a lovely afternoon. Annnnnnd I was extra proud of myself, only bought one cheap dress at H&M (like that, but with tiny white polk-a-dots) and some new concealer from NARS I have been wanting to try out.

Back to sports.  This morning my twitter has been blowing up with Boston Marathon updates and it makes me realllllllllly happy. Now, I have never ran a marathon.  Hell, I haven't ran anything over 11-12 miles and that was once (soon to be twice) with breaks for obstacles during the Tough Mudder.....but I do love me some great marathons. They run them so fast. I am so impressed. This is what my twitter feed looked like...

Does anyone else's feed look like this?

The ladies' last mile time was still faster than what I would run my first mile in. It baffles me that they can finish 26.2 miles in under 2 hours and 30 mins. BAFFLES!

Lastly, my weekend was complete, because this sneak peak, movie trailer was revealed during the MTV Movie? Music? (not sure which one it was, didn't actually watch it) Awards.  I have been missing some Katniss in my life.  I bet Katniss could run a marathon and kick ass at it.

And may the odds be ever in your favor,

Where Did My Weekend Go?!

But no really, now that track is in full swing, my free time will be quite limited on the weekends.  Pretty much every Saturday until May is full of track - good news is being out on the track is still one of my favorite places, even if it does make me miss competing! (I will just have to live vicariously through the athletes now).  Add in a high school State Playoff game and a Sunday full of Timber's Soccer and my weekend was gone.  Fun, but gone.

On Saturday Bradley was a trooper and found out how much work it takes for a Willamette Track meet to be successful. I might have signed him up to help out at the meet. He even got to catch chase down javelins.  I am slowly teaching Brad all there is to know when it comes to track and field, which is a nice trade off, since I have the pleasure of learning all there is to know about soccer from him. After we were done in Salem we rushed back to Beaverton to watch my sister's team is their second State Playoff game.  They ended up losing to Westview, but overall had a good season. I know this year has been hard for my sister who tore her ACL right before the start of the season, but I am super proud of her for still being so involved.  Now Brad and I get to be her trainers during the off season and will have her in great shape for her senior year.

She even got to go through warm-ups with them this game. #Progress!

Sunday started out kind of early. It's almost comical what a person will do for a good seat at the Timbers games when your season tickets are in the Timbers Army - General Admission section.  We knew it would be a packed stadium with it being the season opener, so we wandered down to the stadium around 10:45 and waited in line for a bit to get early entry wristbands.  Wristbands are given out to the first 1,200 people that show up game day morning and gives you a set number in line to get into the stadium later in the day. Plus, they open a gate for people with a wristband a half an hour earlier than the rest of the crowd, so you get first choice in seating. Overall, it was definitely worth showing up early for this game since it was packed, but I am not sure we will be getting wristbands for every game.

We did get a quick workout in between wristband pickup and the start of the game, which I needed.  Plus, we tried out the downtown LA Fitness which was nice to have a change of scenery for our workout.

{15 rounds}
::5 pull-ups
::10 push-ups
::15 leg exercise (I split mine up between: squats, lunges, box jumps, and spit jumps)

Took me just under 30 mins to finish the 15 rounds and then cooled down with a little cardio after. Quick shower and we were back to the stadium.

Here is the MLS recap of the game last night.  It was goals on goals on goals. The Timbers struggled a bit in the first half, but then came back to end the game in a 3-3 tie.  I am still learning a lot when it comes to soccer since it was never a sport I played - but from what I have taken away from the Timbers in the two games I have watched so far this season is, they are going to score a lot of fun, exciting goals.  We just need to play better defense.  Shoot.. I could even coach soccer at this rate.

Team Selfie why we wait?! obvi

The sun wanted to be out!

I want to look bad ass with an axe.

We also got to sit right behind Alexi Lalas, who used to play professional soccer and now is a ginger broadcaster for ESPN and ABC Sports.

I stole these last three pictures from the Timbers Facebook page, but they were too awesome not to include.

This tifo was pretty legit and interactive!  It played off of rainy Portland.  There was a sign that said 'Rain or Shine since 1975' and then there were umbrellas in the first section and our section played the vital role of the rain and we got to throw blue streamers.

Timber Joey is such a boss.  I also think he has lost a little weight since last year. Have you been working out, Joey?!

Bird's eye view of the crowd that was rocking until long after the match was over.

So yeah, now it's Monday and I am trying to figure out where my weekend went, but won't really have time to find it since this week and weekend are just as busy...

Cheers!

Double the fun :: Weekend Roundup and Tunesday

Guys,

Can we just talk about how good my 3 day weekend was?! Cool, glad you said yes...Let's begin:

-I got to eat so much Kraut while hanging out with my sister and grandparents at the 40th Annual West Linn Lions Sauerkraut Feed on Saturday.  My German roots we very, very happy.

-Did a little number to my shin while going beast mode on box jumps at the gym Sunday morning. (and by beast mode - I obviously mean the opposite of that since I slipped off the box on one of my attempts.)

#toughmuddertraining

Don't let the blood scare you away from box jumps though! Here is the workout:

3 rounds for time:

::30 pull ups::
::30 dead lifts::
::30 box jumps::

I finished in 23::19 and Brad kicked my butt with a time of 19:06. I used an 80lbs bar for my dead lifts and my hammies are now sore and tight.  I have had 3 different people tell me to try hot yoga and I am thinking I might have to give in and see if it helps make me more flexible and less cranky.

-I attended my first Portland Timbers game as a season ticket holder. Let me tell you, I just felt that much cooler being there as a ticket holder. I got to flash my official plastic ticket and wear my awesome lanyard around my neck like a VIP backstage at a Mrs. Carter concert.

-I might have given the stank eye to a 3 year old girl who had the cutest yellow hunters. Gosh, I want a pair so bad.  And really how stupid is it to buy a child a pair of $75.00 dollar rain boots?!  She's going to grow out of them anyway. Buy them for me instead, I am done growing!  Who wants to buy me an early Easter present?

-While being a stay-at-home-gf yesterday, I made this awesome Indian inspired dinner.

It features -

::2 chicken breasts::
::3 stocks of celery::
::dash of minced garlic::
::half a red onion::
::hand full of chopped baby carrots::
::snow peas::
::small can of diced tomatoes in tomato juice::
::patak's tikka masala sauce::
::brown rice::

How to -

::chop all veggies
::saute them in a frying pan with a little olive oil (start with the garlic and onions first to sweat them out a bit, then add the rest)
::dice up the chicken, add it to the veggies, let it cook all the way through
::mix in the sauce and tomatoes and let it simmer for about 10-15 mins
::serve over brown rice and enjoy :)
::it will make about 4-6 servings (depending on your definition of serving)

Anyways, that pretty much sums up my weekend.  Let's get to some music!!!!!

Alex Winston :: Everlasting Light (Black Keys Cover)
This is one of my favorite Black Keys songs and I really like her take on it.

Givers :: Tiny Desk Concert
They just sound so happy and that, in turn, makes me happy.

Bahamas :: Lost In The Light
Double bonus, it's one of my favsies kind of sessions - the Mahogany kind.

Emeli Sande :: My Kind Of Love
My old roomie Rachel saw Emeli in concert a few weeks ago and said she was one of the best live performances she has ever seen. Plus, Jay-Z thinks she has what it takes to take over the US (she is British). That's how you know she's good.

Kisses :: The Hardest Part
This new song from Kisses is my jam. It's catchy, plus I like the lyrics.

Tegan and Sara :: Love They Say
Tegan and Sara's take on a love song.  Has a little bit of an 80's / electronic vibe, which I don't mind one bit.

Happy Tunesday!

Timbers and Pizza!

Brad and I had tickets to the Portland Timbers vs DC United game this weekend, which was a pretty big deal for Brad since he used to work for DCU before he moved out to Oregon.  The game was an evening game so we had a chance to get food before we headed to the stadium.

A few weeks ago I had picked up a Groupon for the pizza joint / bar called Mellow Mushroom.

I had been hearing really good things about the place and it did not disappoint. We tried a few beers with their paddle option and ordered the Funky Q Chicken.  Evidently, the first location was out on the East Coast and its dough was made with spring water from Vermont, so now all of the restaurants get the special water shipped in from the same spring for the dough, which is pretty cool and the dough is uh-mazing!

We walked off our dinner and headed up to the stadium which was only a few blocks away.

 #RCTID

Brad was torn on what outfit to wear, because he is a girl in the army you are supposed to be a Timbers Supporter, they even email you and tell you not to wear opposing team apparel. However, DCU holds a very special place in his heart since he worked for their front office.  He eventually decided on a not too flashy DCU shirt with a Timbers scarf.

The National Anthem is always my favorite at the Timbers games. It literally gives me chills every time. I am a sucker for a good Anthem, it takes me back to my athletic days and I always get a little bit of butterflies as if I am the one about to complete.  The Portland crowd sings with the performer and at the end of this game everyone threw streamers, it looked awesome.

DCU went up 1-0 with a questionable handball call and the oh so attractive Chris Pontius scored off the penalty kick.  Luckily, the Timbers came back to tie the game up and it ended in a 1-1 tie.

The above smoke makes it hard to breathe, so we pretended to be bandits for a bit.

All in all, I am secretly glad they tied, DCU left with a point, Timbers are still not out of the playoff running, and then Brad didn't have to choose a winner or a loser side.  Plus I got to watch DCU's coach Ben Olsen in action and he is my favsies.  Gotta love a well dressed coach, especially when I think he and Brad kind of look like they could be related.

We are on the waiting list to get season tickets for next year, cross your fingers we are high enough on it to get a pair and maybe I will take you to a game with me if you're lucky !

Cheers to Soccer hotties!
