forgive and forget

I came across this quote on pinterest last night after I had to go to Ulta to buy things like a brush, travel size shampoo, and the minimum amount of makeup I can get by with until my lost bags get back to me. Side note, I think I might be in love with this BB Cream / Primer by Tarte. Sorry, getting off track....

Anyway, as frustrated as I was by my travel day from hell and the fact that I was having to spend money out of an inconvenience I did not cause...the quote made me realize how well I actually handled the situation compared to a lot of the others that were in my same situation. Brad and I were not the only ones to miss a flight that day and we were definitely not the only ones that were frustrated - but unlike some people, we were not rude to the workers that were trying to help us get home. Especially, because they were not the ones that actually caused us to miss our flight home in the first place.

At the end of the day our trip to Indiana was great and I am so happy Brad got to spend time with his family. He only gets to see them a few times a year, whereas I get to see mine often since we all live in the same state. So yes, getting home at 3am after a busy weekend of Thanksgiving festivities was not ideal and still not having my bag with all my essentials (like a hair-dryer) is annoying. (Wet hair in 25 degree weather is cold) - but it happened and you can't really change it.

I hate how people are so quick to anger in situations that don't go their way. What good does anger really do for us anyway? Do you really feel better after yelling at the ticket gal? Does it get you home any faster? No. The holidays can be a stressful time of year, so instead of picking frustration and anger as our first emotion. Take a deep breath and think before you speak. Forgive the situation or the person and just move on. You'll be happier in the end because of it.

Cheers!

yes. so glad you handled it so well. i never worked at an airport but i have worked in customer service and it's disgusting how some people treat you when they're frustrated.

also, this bb cream you speak of, worth it?

It always helps to find a silver lining in the bad. I'm proud of you for being nice when it would have been so easy to be short. I'm sure all those customer service folks for the airlines appreciate your niceness too, they probably don't get it a lot during the holiday madness.

100% agree. it's not fair to those around you and it's not their fault either!

I have been very a Angry at people in my life who have wronged me. It took me Awhile after being hurt to realize holding onto the anger was hurting me more. I'm quick to move on these days. Not for the person who made a mistake though, for myself and my own heart.

I'm so selfish.

Shit happens. Sometimes it's no ones fault and even if it is it's not worth dwelling on bc you only bring yourself down.

Love this post!

Amen! Even when I make a customer service call and I know I am going to have to be a jerk so I can talk to a manager or someone who can make it right, I try to make it as painless as possible on the little guy whose job is dealing with mad people like me. It isn't their fault!

Great advice and such a positive outlook on an annoying situation! I hate it when people are mean to poor innocent workers that have NOTHING to do with the situation!

A great positive outlook!

I also got good advice today. My fortune cookie read, "Face all hard times with dignity."

I honestly cannot be friends with people who are unkind to strangers, ie employees and such. It literally makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it.

I had a flight once change my itinerary and give me a 16+ hour delay. It was horrifying, but I didn't yell at anyone, I just cried to my friends and family:)

I could not agree more. You have to pick your battles, and remember not to take your misfortunes out on others. You handled it like a champ!

Yay for being positive and looking at the situation in a good way!! I'm glad that your actual time spent in Indiana was good and I'm so sorry about your awful travel day back home!! :(

But also, I wouldn't be handling a lost bag so well... props to you!

Preach, sista! I can't stand people who are rude to customer service, etc. 9 times out of 10 it's not that person's fault that you're upset. And in the end there are far worse things that can happen than having your luggage lost, etc.
