tuesday tunesday + a grill

So Bradley bought a grill last night! Yayyy! Hooray, Summer! Then we woke up to rain this morning womp womp.

But that's okay! It is supposed to be in the 80s this weekend. Which if you're keeping track, that is the perfect temperature for grilling outside, so it deserves one of these:

Old pic, don't care.

Anyway, enough old selfies... Let's enjoy some music. I am pretty excited about these new tunes.

Josef Salvat :: Hustler
This song, I don't even know what it is I love so much, but dauuumn it's fantastic.

I feel like I need to listen to this song at least twice in a row to get the full greatness of it. It's lovely.

You should know this band for a few reasons. Reason one: they are about to blow up in 2013. Reason two: Brad grew up with one of the guys in the band. Reason three: they look like they could be from Portland. So Hipster right now.

Air Review :: Young
There is whistling. There is clapping. Loves it. (Also, I know this video is a different size that the others and it is bothering my OCD, but I was struggling and gave up. Sorry, not sorry.)

Vacationer :: Good As New
This song has the perfect summer time vibe and I need that in my life right now.

The Cinematic Orchestra :: To Build A Home
Beautiful lyrics in this song. Plus it was on the show Friday Night Lights and who doesn't love the Taylors?!

Crystal Fighters :: You & I
Came across this song via the blog Lucky vs. the Globe. This girl has good taste in music.

Mkkkkkk, enjoy the music. I will be back to bother you tomorrow :)

Cheers!

shenanigans at uptown

Oh Monday, go home. I am not ready for you yet. Instead, let's recap my weekend shall we?!

Friday and Saturday:
Yay for sunburns out at the track!! Actually, I didn't even get that burned, I was a good girl and wore sun block both Friday and Saturday (go me!) Super proud of all my athletes and the team this weekend.  Both the men's and women's teams took second place at the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships and I would like to take full credit for all their success, obvi.  Kidding, the athletes rocked it. I was just there to remind them to relax and compete.  It is always fun to be a part of a person's success and being out at the track always makes me missing competing.

After the meet on Saturday evening, I met up with the boy and our friends Tyler and Cory at our favorite spot, Uptown Market for their campaign party. They are currently raising funds to launch a brewery

The place was hopping. Live music, food carts, beverages, and a lot people.

Oh! and Cornhole (or bags if you're into calling it that) they're my favorite!

You should ask the boys who won.....Hint: my team!!!

This is the point in the evening where things start to go downhill quickly.

Sunday:
Now, I do not consider myself a big drinker and I have many reasons for not being a huge fan of alcohol. I probably don't even need to be discussing this on the blog, since my Mom, Grandma, and Aunts are my biggest readers, but this girl gets hungover bad, like real bad. I am just not good at it, which honestly isn't a bad thing. I don't even have to drink a lot to be a struggle.  This was the case Saturday. I think I had a total of 4 drinks and I was down for the count all day Sunday. We are talking throwing up for a solid 12 hours.

Don't let the popsicle form fool you. That there folks is Pedialyte and I couldn't even keep that down. It was like demons were leaving my body - taunting me for my sins or something. Not to mention the migraine that came with.  Jeez, I get it, I shouldn't drink. What did I do to make you so mad at me, God?!

After yesterday, this girl won't be touching the demon liquid for quite some time (or maybe just nurse one drink the entire evening) and I am quite ok with that.

What kind of Shenanigans did you get yourself into this weekend?!

linkin' into weekend

How is it already Friday?! This week went so fast, I would put money on the fact that the funshine put me in a better mood and got me through the week. I know it's super stupid to talk about things like the weather, but guess what, it's my blog and I can do whatever I want on it!!!!!! suckers. Plus, nice weather makes me happy and I like to talk about things that make me happy.

Sunshine lets me do things like this:

Eat outside during my lunch, because our boss bought patio furniture! Not pictured: tacos!

And this:

I'm coming for ya, Tiger! Won't be hard after you shit the bed at the Masters.

Also, this has nothing to do with sunshine, but it made my week.  I was so excited when it came in the mail the other day I brought it into Spin class to show Bradley and was waving it around.  Sometimes I forget other people take the Spin class with us, oh well!  He called me a nerd, but my spin instructor was excited about it too.

Part massage and muscle repair / Part torture device.

Lastly, with this sunshine all week, my wardrobe has finally felt spring-ish! I have even worn a skirt 3 different times this week. WHOA, I know right, don't get too carried away there Brooke, it's supposed to rain again Monday.

Don't worry though, I didn't get too girly on you.  I am rockin' Nikes and a Vneck tee with today's skirt.

I really like to push the limits of Casual Friday. Sorry, not sorry.

Anyways, enough random photos about sunshine.  Let's get to some links...

::My girl Lauryn Hill is no longer miseducated and is coming out with a new album! This really makes my day and is topical because I was jammin' to her old album earlier in the week before I even heard the good news. Girl's got soul. Must have ESPN or something.

::I love the brand video for this company. Tomboy Style recently shared it and I want to be a part of everything they do.

::What you learned from Seinfeld.

::Thinking about buying one of these for when I make coffee at the office. Maybe even get wild and pick the cow print one.

::So glad Coachella is over. People are idiots.

::I am a grown ass woman and I like Vampire Diaries.

::So excited for the Great Gatsby movie. Speaking of, check out this interview about Brooke Brothers' involvement with the movie.

That's all the internet wrote this week.  Now it's time to get in Coach Brooke mode.  Conference Championships this afternoon and tomorrow! HEYO!!!!

I am leaving you with this jam by my girl Lauryn to #backthatazzup on into the weekend:

Cheers,

because i am the most indecisive person ever

I changed the blog up again last night!!! And I know what you're thinking, Brooke didn't you just change it a little bit ago?! The answer is yes, I had. But here is the deal: I am not sure why I even picked the other layout in the first place. Yes, it was super cute and crisp, but it had pink on it... I don't even like the color pink. It was just too girly for me. Do you ever finally commit to a decision and then know right away it was probably the wrong one.  Yeahhh, that was my last blog layout.

When I was debating last time it was between the old template and this new one and as soon as I purchased the pink one I knew I would regret it.... and I did. At least once a week I would go back and look at this pretty black and white design and think to myself, Gee self, that's the one you should have picked. So I finally gave in last night and I am super happy I did.

Good news is, I think this one is here to stay for a long little while. My girl, Kelly, at Pink + Lola designed this template too and it was only $25.00 on her Etsy shop.  I mean really, you can't say no to those prices!

This decision process got me thinking about how indecisive I can be and how much the ManFriend hates it. You can ask Bradley he can't stand the fact that I can never make up my mind. Our conversations often times go like this:

Bradley:  Brooke, what do you want for dinner? 'I don't care,' is not an option.
Brooke: Oh, I don't know. It doesn't matter to me.... (see what I did there, I didn't say 'I don't care')
Bradley: You are horrible at making decisions. I want a new girlfriend.

Bradley: Brooke, what do you want to do today?
Brooke: I am up for anything, you decide.
Bradley: Uggggggh. FIFA it is then.

I have also noticed, my indecisiveness does not discriminate on the size of the decision.  It can be something as big as what my next car should be or where my next apartment should be to something as small as how I should cut my hair or whether we should have chicken or beef for dinner.

I don't know why, but I just have a really hard time committing to him things.  Sometimes, it is because I honestly don't have a preference, while other times it is because I am afraid I will regret the choice I made.  Probably not the best way to approach life, but what are you going to do?!

Either way, I am happy with this new layout even if it took a little while to get here! We'll have to see how long it lasts :)

I Think I Am Falling In Love...

With my spin class. One of those unhealthy kinds of love. You know the one I am talking about....

My new love and I fight for the entire hour each Wednesday night. My stomach is in knots. I am sweaty and uncomfortable. By the end I'm not sure if I am going to cry or throw up, but damn-it we make it through each class and we have a stronger relationship because of it.

'Sometimes I come to the gym for a pump or a crush. Sometimes it's just about getting my thick on or other times just getting yoked up.  Sometimes it's just about toning up my base. But when I come to the gym to spin, there's nothing like it. I love it. I mean, I'm freaking happy as a clam up on this bike.' - Schmidt

Not to mention the fact that I have a crush on my spin instructor. I get this weird pleasure when she yells at us to try harder and then laughs as she says it or tells us to take it to the 'hurt tank' whatever the hell that means.  I want to be mad at her, but she is probably close to 40 and yet still in better shape than I am, so I try to be like her instead. Creepy much?

I have decided to only go once a week to spin. Partly mostly, because my favorite instructor only teaches one class at our gym on Wednesday nights. The other part is due to the fact that I want to keep my relationship with Spin fresh and exciting.  No need to rush into this love and get sick of each other in a week's time. Ain't nobody got time for that. Instead, I go once a week (tonight!) and get excited slash nervous right before each class, just like first date jitters. It's lovely and hell all at the same time :)

Who's ready to get quad dominant today, you cardio freaks!?

Cheers to Spin!

tuesday tunesday :: 4.23.13

Guess what! I curled the new did this morning and I kind of like it and by that I mean I am a really big fan! Naturally I was late to work, because of it, but that is nothing new. I miss my long locks a little, but I love how much faster my hair dried and double love how healthy it feels, so beggars can't be choosers, right?

{Insert work selfie!}

I know you guys have missed my desk selfies. You're welcome.

Also, I made these overnight oats for my breakfast this morning. They are lovely. I substituted regular milk for Vanilla Soy milk and added Chai seeds. Although, I think I may have added a few too many, they are getting stuck in my teeth. Anyone have floss?!  Oh well...It's a learning process, really.

Lastly, before we get to tunes, we have had two sunny days in a row here in Portland. Holy crap, can we talk about how much better my mood is when that happens? I mean really, I don't think I am asking too much for it to stay like this until next December.....

Anyways, those are my thoughts this fine Tuesday. Enjoy some good music.

Manchester Orchestra Feat. GROUPLOVE :: Make It To Me
Love this combo of performers! Manchester Orchestra's lead singer's voice is one of my favorites, so this collaboration with GROUPLOVE makes me happy :)

Swim Deep :: She Changes the Weather
Who doesn't want to be this girl they are referencing in the song?!

Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams :: Get Lucky
Yesterday, after about 20 mins I finally realized I had been listening to this one song on repeat and it didn't even upset me.  Love Pharrell, love Daft Punk. Excited for their new project!

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton :: Can't Hold Us Down
This song isn't exactly new, but the video is and it is classic Macklmore. If someone so young, can be so classic?

So this song reminds me of something, but I just can't put my finger on it.  Either way I am a big fan. Maybe Fleet Foxes or Vampire Weekend or something, I don't know, it's bothering me.  (actually, now that I think about this, I might have posted this song before.... that could be why it sounds familiar. I am too lazy to go search for it though, so you're stuck with it again if that's the case.)

Had this song stuck in my head all evening. Brad made fun of me, because I kept singing it in my beautiful, beautiful voice.

So much going on in this song.

The National have a new album coming out in May, get excited!

Cheers!!!!! (it's the sunshine that forced all those extra !s)

coast on coast on coast

Anyone else wearing green in honor of Earth Day?! No, just me? cool.  Ok, that's only partly true.  I am wearing green, but it was just a coincidence that it is Earth Day or so the radio told me on my way to work... but enough about Mother Earth, she is only so cool.  Let's talk about my awesome weekend shenanigans instead!

I spent my weekend at the coast with some dear friends of mine!

Face Rock! Comes with a legend even.

I played babysitter and puppysitter while the oh-so talented Anne took engagement photos for our friends that were in from Chicago :) I just know they are going to turn out great, I may even be more excited than Megan and Scott are for their photos. That's a lie.

Above is a sneak peak of the fabulousness of what is to come from Anne's session! Anne just knows how to take a great photo and puts mine to shame :) Plus, she had some adorable subjects to work with! Definitely hop over to her website and facebook to check her work out!

And now back to my pitiful attempts at photography....

Look, a light house!

The weather was great, minus the cold wind.  (However, you can only do so much complaining about the weather at the Oregon Coast though. If it's not raining, it's pretty much considered a success!)

Look, it's the light house again!

So yeah, that was pretty much my weekend.  Had to be up at 4:40am yesterday so Megan and Scott could get back to the Portland Airport and was dead bolted out of the apartment by sleeping Brad. Evidently, there were things that happened during his Man Date with a few friends that he didn't want me to come home to ;)

Oh! And most importantly, I nutted up and chopped off some of my hair! How much do I look like Elizabeth Olsen?!

I really like what my hair guy did with the did. Emmanuel aka E (that's what his friends call him and I feel like I can too, now that we bonded over Boxer Puppies yesterday?) left it at a length that it is still longish and manageable, but much healthier. Plus, he is finally getting it back to a color we are both excited about.  He has been trying to fix what my last hair person did to it months ago.  Note to all: don't die your hair dark brown and then let your hair person try and get it back to blonde in one try. It.doesn't.work.

Cheers to Monday!
*Also, I am choosing to be happy on this Monday because it is supposed to be sunny all week.

Get low, low, low.

Guys,

I made such a bomb dinner last night, be jealous. I even got wine, heyo!

Steak, yum. Salad, yum. Asparagus, yum. Wine, double yum.

::Speaking of food, really need to spice up my oatmeal game.

::Also, Kait (the queen of overnight oats) should be proud, I Brad made these overnight oats last night.

::Can we be friends already, Anna?

::Speaking of Anna. Got you this.

::How does Lochte even have a show?!

::You're more beautiful than you think. - So, this video is catching some flack, and I see their argument, but I think at the end of the day this is still a good reminder that women need to see themselves in a more positive light, me included.

::Lastly, I don't often announce that I was in a Sorority. It just really wasn't my thing, but I can't deny I was in one.  With that being said, I wish this email would have been sent out to my sorority. I would have died with laughter!

That's all she wrote for awesome links this week, guys.  I gotta #backthatazzup on outta here to play with these pretty ladies

Anne, Mego, and Me :)

and since it is #backthatazzup Friday....

I leave you with this picture:

Mego and I gettin' low at Anne's wedding.

and this song:

get low, low, low....

Happy Friday!!!

when i grow up...

Teaming up with Whitney and Erin today for a very important When I Grow Up post.

Ever since I was a wee one I have wanted to be an Olsen Twin. I loved Full House, except when Michelle would get in trouble for something. Then I would get sad and uncomfortable and leave the room or cover my eyes with a pillow - true story ask my mom or pops. I was a goodie-goodie when I was little, hated getting in trouble. I definitely watched one too many of their preteen movies. Holiday in the Sun, anyone?!

Sorry, getting off track....back to my point...after all those years of aspiring to be the twins, I think I have finally given up hope on those dreams. I realized I am just not anorexic enough or skinny enough or stylish enough or cool enough to be them.  It's a sad, sad day, but I am slowly coming to terms with it.

Now, don't feel bad for me and think I am giving up on my dreams. Think of it more as redefining my dreams. I have decided to transfer my efforts and move on to a new Olsen.  So here it is, guys - When I grow up - I want to be their younger, but just as pretty sister, Elizabeth Olsen!!!!

Annnnd I have decided that I am going to start the transformation this weekend with a haircut!

But no really, I am getting my hair cut this weekend and am debating cutting off multiple inches, not just my normal please, please don't cut any more than you have to to make it healthy length.

I think this is the look I am going for if I can get the cojones to do it.

I mean she is totally adorable!

She is quirky with a side of nerdy! (just like me, obvs)

But can be a little sex kitten when she wants to glam it up! meow!

*All photos are my from pinterest hairdid board :)

Not to mention, be low maintenance with straight hair and still look fantastic. Plus, I am all about that low maintenance 'ish!

Basically, what I am saying is, my dream for when I grow up has evolved. I have moved on from the high maintenance twins ain't nobody got time for that and want to be Elizabeth Olsen when I grow up. That's not too much to ask is it?!

Honest time though: what do you guys think of the haircut? Do I dare cut that much off?!

Cheers!

why do i care about amanda bynes?!

I got lost in Amanda Bynes' twitter this morning. It was bad, guys, real bad. sorry, I'm not sorry. I don't even follow her on twitter. What is wrong with me? More importantly, what is wrong with her?!

Where did this sweet little gal go?!

When did this happen?!

WHY DO I CARE?!

Ugh.

Moving on...

Here are some things (in list form, obviously) that are actually making me happy this week.

:: I got to play volleyball for 2 hours last night. I was asked if I could be a fill in on one of my friend's teams.  Granted it was after a long day that included a lunch run during work, driving the 45mins down to Salem for practice after work, driving back from Salem, and then finally playing volleyball till 9pm.  Made for a tiring day for this Grandma, but worth it!

::Put a new coffee mug into rotation at work.  Love the little monkey and the cute color on the handle.

#muglove

::The just because flowers Brad got my at the end of last week are starting to bloom!

::Spin class is tonight! I have a huge girl crush on the spin instructor.

::After my late night last night, I am looking forward to an early bed time tonight.... After I watch last night's DVR'd  The Voice, of course! #team I have a huge crush on all of them including my hips don't lie Shakira!

Happy Wednesday!!!

boston

If you are losing faith in human nature, go out and watch a marathon.” – Kathrine Switzer

I don't have much to say today, kind of like the last time tragedy struck all too recently, because this isn't about me. What happened in Boston yesterday is bigger than me and my feelings of sadness. I could ask why, but will probably never have an answer and I can't even begin to imagine what everyone went through yesterday.

What I will choose to focus on is all the good that comes after something this tragic.  It's too easy to focus on anger or being scared or making this about yourself.  Instead, I choose to focus on the heroes, big or small, that came seconds and hours after, and who will continue to shine in the days to come. I choose to focus on hope and all the good that is still in the world despite what happened yesterday.

Check out this link or this couple if you want to see why not all is lost.

weekend shanans

Oh hello there, Monday.  Fancy seeing you already.  You sure came nice and early this morning after the Timbers' game last night. The game didn't even start until close to 8pm.  This girl is usually on the couch with a blankie by then counting down the time it is considered acceptable to actually go to bed. Oh well, they won so it was worth it - even though it was freezing.  Oregon really needs to get its act together on the weather side of things.

I enjoy going to Timbers' games, but if the weather doesn't start getting nicer, imma get a little testy.

Does anyone else take Timber's Army selfies?! No?! Just me?! Cool.

They won. I was impressed.

Yes, in case you were wondering, the rest of my life weekend more or less revolved around sports.

Saturday and Sunday was spent watching my boyfriend Adam Scott win the Masters. Luckily, my parents and brother were up this weekend visiting my grandparents so I got to watch it with all of them.

Look at that smile. He is an Aussie, too. So the accent is real nice.

I did sneak some shopping in with my friend Justine and then later with my sister, Mom, and Grandma on Saturday, too.  It was a lovely afternoon. Annnnnnd I was extra proud of myself, only bought one cheap dress at H&M (like that, but with tiny white polk-a-dots) and some new concealer from NARS I have been wanting to try out.

Back to sports.  This morning my twitter has been blowing up with Boston Marathon updates and it makes me realllllllllly happy. Now, I have never ran a marathon.  Hell, I haven't ran anything over 11-12 miles and that was once (soon to be twice) with breaks for obstacles during the Tough Mudder.....but I do love me some great marathons. They run them so fast. I am so impressed. This is what my twitter feed looked like...

Does anyone else's feed look like this?

The ladies' last mile time was still faster than what I would run my first mile in. It baffles me that they can finish 26.2 miles in under 2 hours and 30 mins. BAFFLES!

Lastly, my weekend was complete, because this sneak peak, movie trailer was revealed during the MTV Movie? Music? (not sure which one it was, didn't actually watch it) Awards.  I have been missing some Katniss in my life.  I bet Katniss could run a marathon and kick ass at it.

And may the odds be ever in your favor,

#backthatazzup links

Ya'll (look at me pretending like I'm in the show Nashville or something), I had such a traumatic experience last night. Right before bed, Brad decided he was going to take the trash out....What a nice guy he is. Well, as he was picking up the garbage to take it outside a nasty, smelly, god awful liquid started SPEWING out the bottom (ok, that might be a slight exaggeration, but it definitely was dripping all over the floor) and had been leaking in the garbage can for a little while now so that's where the smell had been coming from.  I can't even begin to describe the smell to you, but will attempt anyway it smelled like old prawns, and feet, and all things evil in the world.

I wanted to vom, but since I am so heroic, I cleaned that 'ish up.  So, at 10:30 at night (wayyyy past my bedtime mind you) I am mopping the floor and cleaning out the garbage can with anything I think will stop the smell (vinegar, lemon juice, soap, febreze, you name it, I tried it). After I was done cleaning Brad kept trying to freak me out and say he could still smell it in my hair and on my clothes, I might believed him a little.  I think the smell is going to stay in my nose forever. UGH.

But in other pretty, non smelly news - Bradley brought home 'just because flowers' for me yesterday.  Evidently his work was selling them and a portion of the proceeds went to Easter Seals Oregon :) Tulips are about to be poppin' soon!

Lastly, before we get to today's links, Keith Sweat just came up on my shuffle as I was editing this post and if that's not some #backthatazzup Friday music, then I don't know what is.

Anyways, here are totally tubular links:

::Groupon is having a Hunters deal.  I have no money, but I mean I have been wanting Hunters for so long, I can't not pass up this deal, right?! The only problem is not sure I want any of those color options, I may still hold off.  decisions, decisions.

::Evidently the theme of my links this week is financial decisions.  Does that mean I am growing up? Make it stop.

::Anyone else getting else feeling the pressure of the Mword?!

::And since these links took a turn to SeriousVille, let's tone it down a notch and visit Thug Kitchen. *Warning some material may not be suitable for children under the age of 16 or people with a sensitivity to cursing. Click at your own risk, but I promise you it's hilarious!!*

Who knew the Mantis Shrimp was so badass or knew what it even was for that matter?!

::For anyone else that is as pumped as I am for the new season of Arrested Development to come out on Netflix. I got you the link above.

::Last, but never least, some Ron Swanson for your Friday. Enjoy!

Now #backthatazzup on into the weekend!!!!

Cheers,

national sibling day?

Rumor has it, yesterday was national sibling day. Evidently I am a horrible sibling and had no idea. ... Although, the rest of my siblings must be horrible too, because I didn't get tagged in status updates or fun photos by any of them on my facebook. (Since that is how you show real love... not a phone call or visiting the person, just giving a shout out on social media, duh) Ok, that's a lie my litter sister did put up a photo of the four of us, but she didn't tag me in it, so it doesn't count.

Anyways - my sibs, there are three of them.  I am the oldest and obviously the wisest. They all look up to me and wish they were half as awesome.

This photo pretty much sums us up.  Good looking, awkward, and always entertaining.  My parents thought it would be cool nerdy to name all of us names that start with the letter B, so it's me Brooke, then Brannon, Braden (Brady), and Brittany. Don't you wish you were an alliteration like us?!

Brannon is super funny, the type of funny that catches you off guard, because you have no idea where he came up with whatever he just said, but you're dying laughing.  He is also enriching the lives of children daily or something like that, because he is a teacher and high school basketball coach.  Brannon likes to make fun of me a lot for my blog.  His token phrase is 'what, are you gonna go blog about this too?' and always gets really mad when I pull out the camera to take pictures for the blog. He is a hater. He also calls me a hypocrite, because one time I wrote this post about bloggers that don't smile with their teeth and then put up the same type of photo myself. Good news is, I know he reads my blog!

Brady, is too confident for his own good, but it works for him, I suppose. He likes to play the whole, I'm the middle child, feel bad for me card, but he is totally lying when he says that ;) Although, one time when he was really young Brannon and I hung him up in our garage (which was not actually attached to our house) by his overalls and left him there until our neighbor found him (so maybe he is onto something).  He is in school right now getting his degree in criminal justice so he can eventually become a police officer...He better get my ass out of a ticket if I ever need it. Not that I ever drive over the speed limit or anything like that....

Lastly, there is the bebe of the family Brittany. She is still in high school, but is probably more athletic and cooler than the rest of us (don't tell her I said that). I have blogged about her before, so the boys are probs jealous and think I like her more which I do. Britt definitely gets spoiled by the rest of us. She says she wants to go into law enforcement too when she grows up. (Is anyone else picking up on the theme that my siblings want to go into fields of work that are like beneficial to society or whatever... Who does that?!)

So yeah, those are my siblings, in case you didn't realize I had any. Not sure how my parents put up with us when we were little, but we turned out pretty awesome, so they must have done something right!

Cheers to sibs!
