Gains Friday...Or Something Like that

GUYS!

I made it through week one of the gym. Well, almost I have work again this afternoon and tomorrow...but still! Week one in da books more or less. I definitely have a lot to learn and get comfortable with when it comes to getting in front of potential clients, selling personal training, and getting people excited to work with me - but I have been killing the 5 am open a few days a week, so I've got that going for me. It's nice and quiet that early in the morning, plus I am always impressed that people show up that early to get sweaty. They get extra points in my book.

Since it's Friday and my attention span is about at a nonexistent, I wanted to provide you with fun things that make me happy on the interwebs this week.

::First, my girl, Grace Helbig now has a podcast. My life can't have enough Grace Helbig.

::Next, we have this video of Grace and Mamire hanging out in Portland, it makes me wish I stalked and met them when they were there.

::You should try out #tablessthursday.

::Here are 19 things that are cheaper than raising a kid. Kids are ugh, expensive. \

::Benedict Cumberbatch did the ice bucket challenge. HEYO! Also, John Krasinski also did it and he is too cute.
Cheers,

Betches.

good news & good vibes

Well good news, everyone. Even though the US lost yesterday in their World Cup game they are still moving on to the next round so Bradley didn't  break up with me! Plus, this morning started off with a breakfast burrito and bacon so I would say Friday is looking pretty good, guys - even if it is cold and raining. Get you ish together, Portland.

With my good mood this morning let's get to linking up with Amanda for Friday Favorites

//This article speaks to me. Everything about it is spot on.

//When white people claim things. #Columbusing

//I will NEVER stop taking from your plate of food. As Helene says, get over it.

//But no really, this was my life. Thanks Glide High School.

//For the record - this song will be EVERYWHERE this summer. Mark my words, people. Mark my words. - PS. look how hipster I am with my music tastes. Sharing this song before it blows up.

Happy Friday!!

Pretty picture found here.

Cheers!

is there such thing as a healthy-ish dessert?

Happy Friday, my lovelies. Today I want to discuss Friday Favorites and things from this week that made me happy with Amanda from Meet At The Barre.  Want to share some links. Some food. Some Yoga moves...and some all around goodness.

First, let's talk about this awesome 'dessert' I made last night. Here is what you need.

::banana
::peanut butter
::honey
::dark chocolate chips
::whole wheat tortilla
::butter

Then go ahead and make yourself a dessert quesadilla with all the goodies. In case you live under a rock and have never made a quesadilla...The butter goes on the outside of the tortilla so it doesn't burn to the pan and the outside of the shell gets nice and golden brown with a little crisp. The rest of the goodies go inside for some heavenly goodness that is not too unhealthy for you.

Next, let's talk about how after that dessert I decided to play around with some yoga. It was an off day for workouts, but I wanted to get some stretching in. I am trying to do yoga at least twice a week these days and it is definitely helping with my tightness. I was also really excited because I was able to build into this headstand after watching this video posted by Lululemon.

I might have also pulled something in my neck a little bit when I was flopping around trying handstands and other poses, but that is neither here nor there... Let's just focus on the fact that I was able to nail headstands and crow's pose multiple times last night.

And now let's share some of my favorite links.

::With another school shooting this week, this time too close to home, I found this article to be very interesting.

::Thanks Macey for this find on 5 things every daughter should be taught.

::Watch this French Bulldog be the cutest.

::The sexiest beards of the World Cup. mmmhmmm

Lastly, here is my favorite song of the week for #backthatazzup Friday.

Don't Wait by Mapei on Grooveshark

Cheers to Friday!

embrace

Three cheers for Friday!!!!!! I see there is no shortage of exclamation marks today, Brooke. Last night was officially my last track meet that I had to coach at and it feels weird. I don't have a meet to go to this weekend for the first time since the beginning of March and next week will be the first time I don't have to commute an hour for practice twice during the week. What am I going to do with all my free time?! So much time for activities now like: sleep, eat, sleep, workout, eat, repeat.

Anyway, today I want to share a fantastic thing with you...or at least I think it is fantastic. So Sarah posted this link on her blog the other day and it just hit home for me. Today I want to share with you the Body Image Movement. I love what Taryn's mission is for not just herself and her daughter, but for women everywhere. We need more women (and men) that believe in the power of things like the Body Image Movement. We need more people to love their bodies and themselves.
'In 2012, while contemplating my impending plastic surgery which would make my breasts perky plus neatly tuck away that excess fat on my stomach, I had an epiphany.
If I go through with this, what am I saying to my daughter about body image? How will I teach her to love her body? How am I going to encourage her to accept and love her body, when I am standing in front of her with a surgically enhanced body? What type of hypocrite or mother would I be?
Presented to me at that moment of realisation, were questions I needed to address, and within that moment, I knew the answer. It was clear. I chose Mikaela, and the future of my daughter.
With the decision to cancel my surgery firmly in place, it still left me with the awareness that I was stuck in a body that I didn’t love, with parts I detested. I was at rock bottom, I hated my body more than ever.
Then a thought popped into my head. What if? What if I could live happily with my body? Was this even possible?
I picked myself up off the floor, wiped the tears from my eyes and looked into my mirror. Bursting from my soul came my old friend Taz. The one I knew and loved, the happy-go-lucky self which had been hiding for too long.
She simply said, “You can do this”.
And so began this journey. This unwavering desire to teach, educate and shout around the world that loving your body can bring you happiness and by learning to do so, change lives forever.'  - Taryn Brumfitt

I think the most powerful part of this video that really hit home for me are the responses that women gave her when they described their own bodies. So many women and girls, including myself, are too quick to find their faults instead of all the beautiful and wonderful things about their bodies. Our bodies are strong and powerful and full of life, we need to respect them and respect ourselves. There is no such thing as a perfect body, but there is such thing as a healthy and happy one.

So, do me a favor today and take a second to find some positives in yourself. And then do a happy dance to this song, because it's Friday and that's what we do on Fridays. We choose to be happy and we dance.

Cheers to you!

sweet baby jesus

Guys, I made it through Thursday, just barely. It ended with this short story, though: anytime I go somewhere and do not want to take my purse with me, I put it in the trunk of my car - just in case someone tries to break into my car. (please don't go break into the trunk of my car now). Anyway I get to the track yesterday and park out in the big parking lot that gets quite a bit of action. Anyway... I put my purse in the trunk go on with my coaching blah, blah, blah...well I get back to my car 2 hours later only to realize that my trunk had not shut all the way and it just chillin there wide open. I start to mini panic in my head. Is my purse gone? Did people steal all my stuff? Is my car battery dead? This is really the last thing I need in my life. PRAISE SWEET, SWEET BABY JESUS my purse (with everything in it) was still there and my car started...but this was just proof that I need the weekend.

 Sidenote, I think this gif wins the internet.

Anyways, I got home made dinner and got straight into bed to read so nothing else could potentially go wrong and guess what... I made it to Friday, I am not tired and things are looking up!!!!! Now let's enjoy to some internets to celebrate.

//I listened to the most interesting interview last night on the way home from track practice. Fresh Air had Jolie Kerr on, author of the book My Boyfriend Barfed In My Handbag..And Other Things You Can't Ask Martha. Kerr also writes a post called Ask A Clean person and for someone that secretly loves to clean this interview made me the happiest. She talked about how to get out all kinds of stains from blood to puke, and why things like mildew-y towels happen and how to fix it! It was gross and fascinating at the same time! Highly suggest you listen to the interview or check out her writing.

//Hipsters love coffee.

//Samuel L. Jackson recites Boy Meets World.

//Why does nothing cool ever happen to me on planes. I just get stuck next to the annoying people or crying babies.

//Nice Life, Juanny Pabs

//If you've ever had the misfortune of opening a woman's makeup bag, you know that it smells like a dead actor.

//What did people do before email? Just stare at papers?

Now let's play some tunes to get your ready to #backthatazzup into Friday.

riding the divergent train

So I finally got on the Divergent train and am halfway through the first book. Totally FanGirling right now. Loving everything about it. If obsessing over fictional characters who are much more badass than I were a sport, I would totally be the MVP. (Can we make this a sport Sarah? Think Goodell would fund it?) Hopefully I will have enough time to finish it to catch the movie in theaters! Anyway, last night when I was reading I came across this quote and just fell in love with it.

I wish more people (including myself) felt this way, acted on our thoughts, and stood up for one another more often. Just a real life, deep thought for your morning. Sorry I took it to serious town on a Friday.....

Now let's get to some links.

//These photos from the mudslide in Washington will break your heart.

//How dare you hurt bacon like that.

//Poor Joe? Poor NHL? Poor Magic Johnson? Poor Trebek

//To Insta or Not to Insta?

//Stylish people and their stylish tattoos

//What we 20 somethings are saying and what we actually mean.

//In honor of Divergent I am bringing you a song from the movie soundtrack for #backthatazzup Friday. The whole album is pretty fun, plus it features Chance The Rapper, M83, and Kendrick Lamar. Good stuff people.

Cheers to your Friday! Hope it's not as rainy as mine.

all of the links

Happy Friday, BZs. I am super excited for this weekend because while Brad is off in Reno losing betting money on the March Madness games with some buddies, I get to go play with my old college roomies at the coast...and the best part, it's not even supposed to rain this weekend. Can't ask for much more. Well you can, things like 80 degree weather and hot surfers to look at would be extra nice, but we are going to the Washington coast not the San Diego beaches. Can't win em all I suppose. Anyway here are some of my favorite links on the internet this week.

//You might hate me a little after you get addicted to this game.

//Not to mention the thoughts you will have while playing said game.

//I literally just can't. I'm dying.

//Prince is my one and only Savior.

//Thoughts we've all had at brunch. All of the bacon, please.

And in honor of March Madness for #backthatazzup Friday I give you the greatest song ever. The ball is tipped....

First, thanks for all the hair ideas yesterday. Still undecided, but you know how I said I wanted to keep the length...I might have changed my mind. Thinking about going more drastic and chopping off like 6 inches, because I have found my hair muse.
The girl from Gal Meets Glam (the 2 bottom photos) can do no wrong when it comes to her hair. I want it. I want it in all the colors, all the styles, all the lengths. You get the idea. How is it so perfect?! We'll see if I actually commit or chicken out come Monday afternoon.  Enough about my hair. It's just hair, it grows back, and it's really not cool enough to blog about multiple days in a row.

Let's check out this week's entertaining links.

//Have you guys seen this strangers kissing video yet? It's weird and I can't tell if it is a good thing or not.

//Children falling over is never not funny.

//Men don't understand cravings

//Just one more and you get a taco.

//This is why I can't be a princess.

//House of Cards Drake

//Be aware of what you are ordering at Starbucks

//I'm that asshole that holds up the line for cilantro-free rice.

//Guys, this colaboration with Frank Ocean, Diplo, and The Clash. Wowza. Perfect for #backthatazzup Friday with Whitney.

Now go celebrate Friday already.
Cheers!

What do I want to wear today?!

In honor of #backthatazzup Friday with Whitney, I have two songs to share with you today. First Pharrell WIlliams' new CD came out and G. I. R. L. is legit. My favorite song on the album that I have been listening to on repeat is Lost Queen. Something about it is just so catchy.

Lost Queen by Pharrell Williams on Grooveshark

The second one is a Babbling Brookelyn Original... does anyone else sing to themselves in the morning? Brad laughs and mocks every day me as I stand in my closet each morning singing this little tune.

What do I want to wear today? Wear today? Wear today? What do I want to wear today?! I don't know....

Nerd alert. Who am I and why did I just admit that on my blog? Getting dressed is hard. Anyway, enough embarrasing stories about me. Let's enjoy some Friday links.

//Hannah's posts speak to me every time. Especially this line in her post from the other day:
'We still want to be something really special for the same reasons that anyone, at any age, wants to be something really special: because it’s nice to be noticed every once in a while, even if it’s just by someone who has always taken you as you are. And in a world where it’s nearly impossible to get someone to look you in the eye instead of at the screen, it’s nice to be someone’s kind of Special at the end of a long day. --this part especially'
//Someone come make me this. Even if we already have a headboard.

//How do you define beauty?

//Which Hunger Games character are you?

//Speaking of what to wear, someone buy me these, please.

//Thinking about doing this workout on my lunch break today.

Annnnnnnd now to get through this Friday and onto the weekend. Bradley is taking me here for date night, even if he doesn't know it yet. Get in my belly, yummy food.

Cheers!

links for all

Hooray!!!! We made it through another week, unless you're someone that works weekends, then I feel very, very sorry for you. Anyway, in honor of the oh-so special occasion, I collected all these links for you.

//Allen Stone sings to my soul.

//I can't stop listening to Jillian Michaels podcasts. I know not everyone is a fan, but I enjoy her.

//Kay posted this link earlier in the week and the graphic is spot on. Sitting is the worst.

//What does you celebrity crush say about you? Side note: what does it say about you if you have more than one crush; my signals are getting all sorts of crossed! Paul Rudd, Jennifer Lawrence, Aubrey Plaza...

//For Fan Friday with Sarah...Are you a betting man? Check out all the odds for the Super Bowl. This is probably the best one:  21 percent chance announcers say "Marijuana" during the game (Yes +350 | No -600)

//If you're in Portland check out this cute coffee shop Blend.

//Also, do yourself a favor and go check out a hockey game in your area. We went on Wednesday night to the Winterhawks game and it was super entertaining. Multiple fights were had.

//And for my final trick today, I am making you listen to this song by Allen Stone for #backthatazzup Friday, in case you were too lazy to click on the link above. You're welcome, you lazy asshats.

killed the internet this week

So I killed the internet this week. It's dead, done and gone. These links are the truth.

//Starting with this gif.

links on friday

Brooke is a little tardy to the party today. Had physical therapy early this morning and rolled in late to work. Good news I am almost done with PT! Only one or two more appointments and as much as I enjoy my therapist I don't want to pay for any more visits. Sheet is expensive.

Anyways, here are some links that I enjoyed. You should enjoy them too...since it's Friday and no one should do real work on Fridays.

// Sorry, not sorry. I am obsessed with Christmas.

// This headbutt (one T or two?) happened in last night's Colt's game.

// Just do it....later.

// Jim Gaffigan knows a thing or two about food, especially kale.

// Sorry Brad, not going to put our relationship up on facebook. Ever.

// So Alissa and Shay have gotten me beyond hooked on the Daily Grace YouTube. Almost embarrassed to admit how many videos of hers I have watched in the last week.... almost. I want to be her. I want to be friends with her....Just please watch this one. I beg of you.

Lastly, I am leaving you with this Summertime Sadness cover by Miley for #backthatazzup Friday. My friend Scoob sent it to me and it's fab. If you're into Lana Del Rey covers and into Miley just being Miley then you'll like this.

internets to help me procrastinate

1 trip to Target, 1 paper cut, and multiple flash cards later...my first night of studying for my personal training certification is in the books. This made me realize I have not studied in a long time.  Need to get back in the groove of things. It also reminded me that I have to have all my stuff ready and organized before I can start. Just a tad OCD when it comes to my study habits.It also made me realize that I have a lot to learn in the next 6 months if I want to pass this test. Here we gooooooo.....

Because I was so busy studying last night. I figured I deserved a procrastination break and wanted to share. Here are some entertaining links for the week. Enjoy.

reasons to watch futbol

Hellllllllllo Sports Fans,

In honor of Fan Friday, I wanted to share with you a sport I have started watching more regularly within the past 2 years. As you may have caught on, Brad has made me become a futbol fan....and no it's not the American kind. It's the kind that everyone, but the US, loves....SOCCER. Actually that's not true. Come to Portland and you'll see it's really popular here too. Brad and I even have season tickets to the Portland Timbers games. Anyway, after being immersed in the beautiful game (that's what they call it) for a little while now, I thought I would tell you all the reasons why you should give soccer a chance.

Δ The players are hot.

Δ The goals are impressive.

Δ The fans are crazy.

Δ The goal celebrations are LEGIT.

Δ The Wives and Girlfriends of the players are sexy. Hello WAGS. Yes, Shakira is a WAG.

Δ The commentators rival golf commentary and if you watch golf, you know that commentary is gold.

Basically, what I am saying is give soccer a chance, like this American football coach is.

*Editor's note: It's true about the 3/4 capris. Brad is obsessed with them and he didn't even buy them in the women's section.

So appreciate soccer... or at least appreciate this.

And last, but not least...I will leave you with a song off of FIFA 2013 (that's the soccer video game in case you didn't know) for #backthatazzup Friday!!!!!

#backthatazzup onto the disabled list

So it's official, my hip is all jacked up and it is making my knee sore too and I am a big struggle. I even brought an ice pack to my office today. UGH. Looks like I am taking up swimming for a bit. Better learn how to do this.

And stick to mostly upper body workouts. Biceps on biceps, bro.

All arms, all day.

Anyway, this has been on the verge of happening for a while now, and I kept ignoring it, hoping it would go away, instead of taking the proper steps to recovery. Things like extra stretching, icing, and taking a few days off. Now both my knee and hip flexor hurt and I am mad and sad. Sheeeeet. Plus, on top of all this Gmail and Facebook rolled out changes today, people are going to lose their shit. Prepare to be annoyed by their angry updates about it.

::But in other news watching this made me laugh.

::5 health foods that aren't healthy.

::What it was like to play high school sports as a girl.

::I know I have mentioned before that I hate shaving and this article helps solidified my thoughts.

::I am officially starting to get old. Seeings how it is my birthday month and all.

::Why chivalry is important.

::Said no one, ever.

::Also, I'm leaving you with Robin Thicke's new single Take It Easy On Me for #backthatazzup Friday.  Take it easy on me today, I am hurt, ok guys?!

Peace out girl scout,

ride the boogie and #backthatazzup

Hello my little chickadees and chickadudes,

It's Friday and I am excited to spend the weekend as a tourist in my own city! Brad's sister and her hubs got into town last night from Louisville (pronounced LULaville, like you're getting punched in the gut when you say it) and they are here till Monday morning.  We have a ton of fun stuff planned including - an underground walking tour of Portland, Saturday Market on the waterfront, the Japanese Gardens, and a trip to Hood River.  Now to just get through this work day. UGH. Hopefully these fun links will keep me occupied from real work

Here are some links for your weekend or your lunch break or your hey I am kind of over this day, because it's Friday and it's time to leave. Seeya never, office.

::The bloggess' rules for life.

::Who attempted number 27 anyway?! Not me.

::19 ways to trick people into thinking you workout.

::The 7 dance moves of a drunk white girl.

::15 awkward senior pictures of jocks that nerds are probably still laughing at.

::You might have seen this before, but it's always funny to me. They've been lying to us all along.

::Make T.S. and all her 'Swifties' go away.

::My imaginary well dressed toddler

Lastly, I always gotta link up with my girl who loves yoga pants as much as I do for #backthatazzup. I bet part of the reason she wears them is to make people think she works out too ;)

Where can I get those pants?!

Now go ride the boogie into the weekend,

#backthatazzup tough mudder style

Do you ever just have one of those evenings....

::The kind where you're late to an appointment because of traffic, your gas light comes on half way through the commute, annnnnd you have to pee. Not sure if I am the only one, but I PANIC as soon as my gas light comes on, because the one time I didn't panic I ran out of gas. Embarrassing.

::The kind where you walk in the door and the first thing your boyfriend tells you is you smell like beef jerky. (We later discovered it was from the sweatshirt I put on, hadn't been washed since the weekend and it still smelled like campfire.)

::The kind where you go to the grocery store and you're smelling new shampoos and it squirts up into your nose. facial.

::The kind where you buy these awesome treats:

because you're cutting out dairy, but then when you go to open the container they spill all over the sink and counter, 3 of which ended up down in the garbage disposal. WAHHHHHHHHHH

No?! Just me?! Cool.

Needles to say, all those Almond bites were gone by the time I went to bed last night and I am extra glad it is Friday.

Also, if you're curious I made it to my appointment in time and didn't run out of gas. It was for a massage and don't get all ohhh and ahhh for me, this was not your normal, relaxing, happy massage.  This was a massage done by the sports massage therapist that worked on me in college for track.  It's deep tissue and it's painful, BUT they are the most beneficial massages I have ever had when it comes to preparing for an event.  I have been having knee and back pain and I think it has to do with my tight hip flexors so I am trying to get them loosened up before this weekend's TOUGH MUDDER

::Speaking of, go check out Jessi's weekend links that are Tough Mudder style. Great Transition into this week's links, Brooke

::Just a few pie charts, you know, very educational ones.

::In honor of Fathers Day.

::37 things to consider before moving to Portland.

AND MY FAVORITE LINK OF THE DAY....

::Season 2 of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee has arrived!!!!!

Also, it wouldn't be Friday if I didn't #backthatazzup, so we're gonna #backthatazzup Tough Mudder style.

Get some!
