confessions

Hello Blog World,

First I would like to start off by saying sorry to those of you who I made excited yesterday and then ruined your day, when I said it was Wednesday, but really it was only Tuesday. That was inconsiderate of me. Also, we all know that Wednesday is saved for linking up with Kathy for Humpday Confessions

With that let's get to my confessions for the week.

//Confession: I think I am a bad track coach. One of my  favorite athletes that I work with almost broke my school record in the Heptathlon #humblebrag yesterday - and as happy as I was for her awesome performance, I was even more relieved that she is only second all time on the list...for now. Obviously as a coach I want her to perform at the highest level she can; but the selfish part of my former athlete side does not want to see my record go down. Yesterday was too close for comfort and she has another chance to break it later this season. Maybe I will sabotage her and start coaching her poorly? Kidding...obviously!

//I confess: I am tired of seeing your quiz results from Buzzfeed up on Facebook. We get it - Buzzfeed is awesome. The quizzes are pretty spot on...but you're not special for doing that quiz. EVERYONE on buzzfeed has done that quiz. Stahhhhp it, you're tramatizin me. I got 'Recess' for which 90s Cartoon Series I am, because I know you were wondering.

//I confess: I am still not good at yoga. It's way harder than regular workouts. How does one get so bendy?! (ps. who doesn't love Natalie Dee?)

//I confess: last night's yoga sesh was my first time doing yoga in probably at least 6 months. No wonder I am not good at it.

//Continuing on with yoga - I confess that I enjoy the Tone It Up Girls and their workouts (including the yoga one I did last night)...BUT HOW DO YOU GIRLS WORKOUT WITH YOUR HAIR DOWN?! Insert all the shouty caps! How is your hair still curled? How is it not wet noodles? How are you not getting it in your mouth and chocking on it twss How are you not getting it stuck in your armpit and pulling your head and hurting yourself. Not that any of this has ever happened to me....It defies logic and science.

Anyway, those are all the things I have to confess today. Until tomorrow, blog world.

Cheers!

Danced to the sun gods

So I decided to dance to the Sun Gods after ANOTHER cold and rainy track meet on Saturday. I know I live in Portland. I know I have grown up in Oregon all my life. I know I am supposed to embrace the rain and I do, most of the time - but I am just tired of it now. I am ready for funshine and warmer weather and not having to pack my rain jacket whenever I leave the house.

Good news is the Sun Gods listened to me and they are saying it will be a lovely 73 degrees at some point today. Granted it will probably rain tomorrow. But. Whatever - I am living it up today and even wore a skirt. Sorry not sorry to those I blind with my white legs today.

In other news, I turned down cookies not once, but twice this weekend. Give me a gold star, damnit. This whole cutting out processed sugar and the icky carbies has not been nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Granted I am cheating a tiny bit and still having green fruit smoothies in the morning, but eh, playas gone play.

Here is the only photo I took all weekend - post rain and mud at the track meet. Hashtag over it.

Let's not be Sun Shy any more, Portland. Kthanks, Bye.

Make the beeping go away

Yeah, yeah it's Daylights Savings time. We lost an hour of our lives. I am tired, blah blah blah... We know, we know, we are all tired. Instead, let's talk about how this morning a little before 4am I was woken up by a beeping that would not stop! After about 20 mins of listening to the beep go off every 15 seconds (I counted) I ventured out into our living room, grunted at the sound, couldn't figure out where it was coming from and tried to go back to bed. Needless to say my grunting didn't make the beeping stop and falling back into a sound sleep didn't happen. Finally when my alarm went off at 5:38 I think I had officially gone crazy and I am now extra tired. Turns out the stupid beeping wasn't coming from our living room smoke alarm like I assumed it was, but the one downstairs by our front door. I didn't even know we had one down there!!!! Also, Bradley slept through all of this. HOW?! I have no idea...but I will probably hold it again him the rest of the day.

I think I would rather experience an actual fire than have to live through that beeping again. uggggggh. Enough of my complaining. Let's look at selflies from the weekend. I have decided you will get at least one awkward selfie from every track meet this year and since I was at two different tracks on Saturday you get a bonus selfie (you're welcome). You also get two high quality selfies from the first Timbers game of the season.

I swear MLS season just ended last week. How is it already here again?! I am not sure I am mentally ready for it, but I guess the people of MLS don't care about me. Also, fun fact - between track meets and the Timbers game on Saturday I was pretty much standing from the hours of 8am - 9:30pm. It feels really good on your back by the end of the day if you were curious.

This post sounds whiny. I am going to stop typing and drink more coffee. I'll try to be better tomorrow.

Cheers!

all of the house of cards

It's official, my weekends will be slim to none from here until the end of May, because there are Saturday meets. Had the first track meet of the season on Saturday. It was cold and rainy, but went really well. I pretty much looked like this the entire meet.

It also meant I got to treat myself to a sammie and a cookie from Great Harvest Bread Company on my way home form the meet. Man I miss them. yum!

Other than that my weekend was quiet.  I hung out with Jessi for wine and paleo tacos night after the meet and Sunday consisted of a LOT of House of Cards watching.  To the point I only left my house once on Sunday afternoon to go to the gym in between episodes. I watched some of the Oscars, but then went back to House of Cards after Kevin Spacey did his best Frank Underwood voice. AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH PHOTOBOMED U2! I HATE BONO AND I LOVE BENEDICT. So this made me the happiest girl in all the land. Also, I attempted to hang some elementary school level paintings I made last weekend.  Also number 2, I don't know how to make things level. I need to fix that far one, bad.

So yeah, welcome rainy Monday. I am not glad you're here.

Cheers!

shenanigans at uptown

Oh Monday, go home. I am not ready for you yet. Instead, let's recap my weekend shall we?!

Friday and Saturday:
Yay for sunburns out at the track!! Actually, I didn't even get that burned, I was a good girl and wore sun block both Friday and Saturday (go me!) Super proud of all my athletes and the team this weekend.  Both the men's and women's teams took second place at the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships and I would like to take full credit for all their success, obvi.  Kidding, the athletes rocked it. I was just there to remind them to relax and compete.  It is always fun to be a part of a person's success and being out at the track always makes me missing competing.

After the meet on Saturday evening, I met up with the boy and our friends Tyler and Cory at our favorite spot, Uptown Market for their campaign party. They are currently raising funds to launch a brewery

The place was hopping. Live music, food carts, beverages, and a lot people.

Oh! and Cornhole (or bags if you're into calling it that) they're my favorite!

You should ask the boys who won.....Hint: my team!!!

This is the point in the evening where things start to go downhill quickly.

Sunday:
Now, I do not consider myself a big drinker and I have many reasons for not being a huge fan of alcohol. I probably don't even need to be discussing this on the blog, since my Mom, Grandma, and Aunts are my biggest readers, but this girl gets hungover bad, like real bad. I am just not good at it, which honestly isn't a bad thing. I don't even have to drink a lot to be a struggle.  This was the case Saturday. I think I had a total of 4 drinks and I was down for the count all day Sunday. We are talking throwing up for a solid 12 hours.

Don't let the popsicle form fool you. That there folks is Pedialyte and I couldn't even keep that down. It was like demons were leaving my body - taunting me for my sins or something. Not to mention the migraine that came with.  Jeez, I get it, I shouldn't drink. What did I do to make you so mad at me, God?!

After yesterday, this girl won't be touching the demon liquid for quite some time (or maybe just nurse one drink the entire evening) and I am quite ok with that.

What kind of Shenanigans did you get yourself into this weekend?!

Coach Babbles

Starting this week, you can officially call me Coach Babbles. (Side note: really hate the photo I took last year for the website.  I should probably get that changed. Brown hair was a bad choice. Why didn't anyone stop me!?)  Willamette University Track and Field officially started their season up on Monday and this is my second year helping out with the multi-events aka Heptathlon and Decathlon, which is what I did in college.  I am pretty excited to help coach again, minus the whole standing outside in the 30 degree weather and rain thing.... Although, it does remind me of the good ol' days...or something like that.

Nationals my Junior year at WU. Photo cred: Christopher Sabato.

Even though it's a little bit of a commute down to Salem, I always love being back at the track. I'll be driving down twice a week for practice and then go to their meets on the weekend.  I learned a lot from helping out last year and am excited to pick up more coaching tips this year.

Coaching, to me, is so much harder than competing.  It's one thing to figure something out on your own and and convince your body to do it, but to explain an event to someone else, in a way they understand, can be hard.  Finding the right balance between constructive criticism and positive reinforcement can also be a challenge, but I love when I can see an athlete start to pick up on something after I have worked with them. (It still doesn't happen a ton yet, because I have a lot to learn on the coaching side of things, so when it does, it's extra cool.)  The schedule will be pretty busy until May, which is perfect timing for the little trip Bradley and I beginning to plan. More details on that to come later though.

So, in honor of track season I have a great workout that can be done pretty much anywhere: home, gym, track, hotel room, you name it... I stole it from Tina over at Carrots'N' Cake.  Bradley and I did it last night in our living room, which proves you don't need a ton of space for it.

I had sent this workout to Brad last week and he had finished it in 22:34, so last night his goal was to beat his previous time. My goal was to try and keep up with him, since I had no previous time to work off of.  He finished it in 19:06 and I tried my best to stay with and finished in 20:57. Burpees suck. Overall, I was happy with my time, especially because it was faster than Brad's first attempt and I was sore from workouts earlier in the week.

Now, let's all cross our fingers and hope that the sun, which is currently out, warms things up a bit for practice!

Cheers,
