Tunesday is needed

Hey Tuesday.

It's your girl Brooke. I haven't seen you in a week. Can't say I missed you much either. In fact I may dislike you more than Monday. Yeah, I said it. I went there. You're just annoying to me. You're far away from Friday. You aren't kind to me early in the morning. I have to stay up late and watch The Bachelor on Mondays and you're so inconsiderate with your alarm the next day. Do me a favor and go away quickly would you? I would really appreciate it. My bed is already calling my name. To get me through the day I am going to listen to this playlist I made, because you're not the boss of me Tuesday. You also don't get to judge me for the One Direction that is on this playlist either. So sue me, I think Story Of My Life is a catchy song. I'm already over you Tuesday. Try again next week.

Deuces,

best songs of 2013

My girl, Helene, always makes it so hard to create playlists when she picks link-ups like 'songs that define me' or like today's for instance, which is 'the best music in 2013'. Don't make me choose. It's like picking my favorite child if I had any kids or ice cream.

Helene in Between
Never the less, I tried. I am sure I will kick myself and think of others after I post this and probably add them to the playlist.

The mix is quite varied from Miley to Bastille to Kanye - my taste in music doesn't discriminate. Plus, how could a top 2013 playlist not have Lorde?! Hope you enjoy :)  What are some of your favorites from 2013?!

kid president and some music

Happy Friday! I mean Tuesday - but it's my last day of work for the week, so it's Friday in my eyes. We fly out for Indiana tomorrow morning. I even got packed last night (who am I?). Cross your fingers all our travel goes smoothly. The last thing I need is delays or missed flights. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Anyway, I have a few things to share with you today, because I am feeling so giving this morning. It must be Thanksgiving that is making me so kind don't get used to it.

I saw this running around the interwebs this morning and thought it was fitting for Thanksgiving and beyond. Kid President is a smart dude, we should all listen to him more. But really, let's say thank you more often and apologize if you're wrong and forgive someone if they do apologize...but maybe stay away from the corn dogs though, they aren't very healthy.

Also, I have a playlist for you since it's Tuesday, duh. I personally think it would be great background music for a Thanksgiving or a Friendsgiving or if you want to take a nap after all that turkey...it would be great napping music too.

Enjoy the music, people. Not sure I will be around the blog much over the rest of the week and I don't hate the sound of that. Don't miss me too much.

Cheers!

About Time

Ok, so you know how yesterday I raved about the movie, About Time?! Well I think part of the reason I liked the movie so much was the soundtrack. It just blended perfectly with the story. It never overpowered the movie, but each track helped create the perfect mood for each scene. I figured today I would share the soundtrack if you want to give it a listen.

Hands down my favorite on the album is Into My Arms by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. This Gold In Them Hills track by Ron Sexsmith is a close second and you can never go wrong with The Luckiest by Ben Folds. I think Shay would agree with my choices, especially since she was the one to send me multiple tracks from the movie soundtrack after she saw it for the first time (Thanks Shay!). Music will forever tell a story and it definitely helped tell the story in About Time

Now go watch the movie. And go watch it again if you've already seen it

Cheers!

songs i've been hoarding

Happy Tuesday? If Tuesdays can be happy, I think I dislike them more than Mondays. They are just so blah and so far away from the weekend. At least Mondays are excepted and you're prepared for them...Maybe it is just today I dislike. It's raining. It's dark. I thought taking Tylenol PM last night was a good idea, it is not such a great idea this morning. I am tired and groggy. Give me all of the coffee.

Anyway, for Tunesday I have some good stuff for you. I have been hoarding these songs for a few weeks adding to the playlist when I hear something I dig. They're good or at least I think they are.

Hands down my favorite song on the Amos Lee album. Because I know you cared.
I have been a Passenger fan for a long while. This song. I just have no words.
And this is hands down my favorite song on the new Avett Bros album.
'It might just be something my soul needs'
If I could be half as cool as this Smith, she just has so much soul.

Cheers!

3eb

Guys, big news....one of my all time favoritest bands is coming to Portland. DO I GO SEE THEM?! I guess I should probably fill you in on who they are to help form a decision.....

Third Eye Blind. Not only are they coming to Portland, they are also playing in my favorite venue, the Crystal Ballroom. I mean, I kind of have to go, don't I?

With all this excitement, I figured today's playlist would feature some of my favorite 3eb songs! You're welcome. So, without further ado, I leave you with the greatest playlist ever. Ok, maybe not ever, but it's pretty damn close.

Hands down, my favorite song by them (and on my top 5 songs list, dare I say?) Motorcycle Drive By. Close second would be Slow Motion. Also, fun fact, their later album Ursa Major, did not get nearly enough hype or love in my opinion. So.Many.Good.Tracks. Such as, but not limited to, Bonfire and Water Landing
Enjoy!

tuesday tunesday goes to pdx

Brad's parents come to visit today from Indiana for a week and to celebrate I figured I would share some Portland music with you for Tunesday, you're welcome.

Ok, this first song has nothing to do with Portland. I just can't stop listening to it.
I love everything about this band. Think the movie Drive soundtrack. Ahh Ryan Gosliing.
It's easy to be sun shy up here in Portland, since sometimes we don't even remember what it is.
Added two songs by Dresses, because they are just that fun.
Probably one of my favorite bands to come out of Portland. LOVE THEM. LOVE THIS SONG.
So much electronic goodness, enjoy.
This band reminds me of The Head And The Heart and that's a good thing.
Just a little NW Hip Hop for your Tuesday.
His music was always so sad, but so beautiful.
So, only one of the members was from Portland, but whatever, I still claim them.
I mean who doesn't love them? They are the definition of Portland
Ok, The Shins might have to fight this group for who's more Portland.
This song is catchy.
So this band has beards and banjos. Gotta love Portland.

Cheers to my favorite city!

rain rain go away

Dear Oregon,

I had missed your rain....for like a day and now I am over it.  I am not ready for grey and wet to last until next June.  Where is my favorite fall weather at?!!!!? I want to pick apples and be outside with crunchy leaves, not the soggy wet ones that I keep slipping on.

With that being said I decided to dedicate today's playlist to rain. So here are some of my favorite songs about rain. They literally all have the word rain in the title. You're welcome.

But no really, go away for a little bit, rain.

Sincerely,

Brooke Lyn

tuesday tunesday :: fifa edition

So, video games are one thing I just don't do. I may waste my time in a lot of ways, but on x-box and playstation 3 or 12 - whatever one they are on  is not one of them.  However, Bradley does love him some FIFA and I have to admit one thing FIFA does right is music. (okay, they might do more things right too, but I don't play so I don't actually know).

Anyway, when Brad sent me the link for tracks that will be on the 2014 version of FIFA, I have to admit I was impressed. Figured I would share the playlist with you guys too!

Some of my favorites include:

Crystal Fighters :: Love Natural
Dan Croll :: Compliment Your Soul
David Dallas Runnin'
Empire Of The Sun :: Alive
Foals :: My Number
Smallpools :: Dreaming
The Royal Concept :: On Our Way
Vampire Weekend :: Worship You

Rumor has it they will also have this CHVRCHES song on it too and I LOVE THEM.

So yeah, at least when I am bummin' around the apartment and Brad is playing FIFA I know the music will be good! .... In other news, I can't wait until we have a second bedroom in the new condo we are moving into in less than a month!!!! Then I can put him in the other room when he wants to play video games.

Cheers to music!

songs that define me

So when I first saw Helene's link-up for songs that define me, I got a little too excited. I thought to myself, gee self, two music posts in one week, sweet! ...but then I remembered I hate having to pick my favorites or pick songs that define me. That 'ish is hard to define! I have a lot of layers, like an onion. Either way, I was going to take a stab at this. I probably put way too many on this list so sue me.

Trevor Hall :: The Lime Tree
Oh boy, this song will always have a special place in my heart. When I was in college I worked in Alaska every summer at a fishing lodge with some of my best friends. This song was pretty much our AK Anthem.
Citizen Cope :: Sideways
You know how there are just certain songs that just get you. Sideways is a song that just gets me and it will always be there for me.
Sara Bareilles :: Gravity
My love affair with Sara B. really started when I heard this song. Plus, it was always a go to when I was trying to get over boys. Funny how music will often taken you back to relationships too.
Ron Pope :: Our Song
Speaking of boys, Brad was the one who introduced me to Ron P. when I was in college and I am very thankful for that :)
The Avett Brothers :: I And Love And You
I mean, it's Avett Bros. and it mentions me, Brooke Lyn, how does this song NOT define me.
Sufjan Stevens :: Chicago
Sujan is a crazy guy, but I just feel at peace and back in college when I listen to him.
Ray LaMontagne :: Shelter
Ray is one of my favorite singer/song writers. And he sings to my hear when it gets sappy and romantic on occasion.
Amos Lee :: Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight
I'm in love with a girl,
Who's in love with the world,
Though I can't help but follow.

City And Colour :: The Girl
Who doesn't want to be the girl he is talking about in this song? I know my little college heart sure did and still does when I first found this song.
Modest Mouse :: Gravity Rides Everything
So, I fist found Modest Mouse in high school and I would listen to this album every day on the way to school, my brother hated it, but this song always takes me back to first getting my license.
The Head And The Heart :: Rivers And Roads
Back to the boy who stole my heart. Brad and I had to do cross country distance for a year and I found this song while we were traveling rivers and roads to see each other.
Bright Eyes :: First Day Of My Life
I think whenever I listen to this song it makes me feel refreshed and revived. I am ready to tackle life again.
Dire Straits :: Wild West End
Will always remind me of my daddio!
The Postal Service :: The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
I don't want to get all crazy and say The Postal Service changed my life, but this band did open my world to what fantastic music was out there. Welcome to Indie music, Brooke.
Third Eye Blind :: Motorcycle Drive By
This jam helped me through a breakup. So yeah... Thanks TEB
The Format :: On Your Porch
The summer after my senior year of high = this song. Also, fun fact, this was the band before FUN. and I personally think they are a lot more fun than FUN.
Dave Matthews Band :: Crash Into Me
I feel like you can define a person by whether he or she is on team DMB or not and I am definitely team DMB and it all started with this song.
Sinead O'Connor :: Nothing Compares 2 U
My mom and I used to sing this song so loudly when I was little.

So yea, I am really bad at this. And this list probably could have been longer... but is already way too long. And sorry to those that didn't want another music post this week, but I couldn't pass up linking up with Helene. Sorry, not sorry.
Cheers to music!!!!!

miguel

Oh Miguel, you make my heart burst with happiness. I found this Spotify Session yesterday and it makes me smile. It gives us a look into Miguel's thought process and his songwriting journey. Not to mention his beautiful, sexy voice, yes please.  It reminds me a lot of his Tiny Desk Concert for NPR which I LOVE. Swoon. Plus, who doesn't love a good stripped down version of a song, especially smooth R&B like his. Annnd best part, we are both left handed. Heyo!

Cheers to Miguel! I'd make babies with you.

reading tunes

Bought a new book last night guys! It's an Oprah Book Club pick, it's based on a true story, and has portions in Oregon. Win, Win, Win, as Michael Scott would say.

I am excited to  dive into Wild, by Cheryl Strayed . I have only ready the first chapter, but so far, so good.
From the book's website: "At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her."
Anyway, as I was browsing Songza for a good bedtime reading station, I  started to think about what makes for a good song to listen to when you're reading.  It has to be soft background noise, not overbearing, beautiful melodies that just blend into moment, etc. So then, I decided to put together my playlist of great music to read to .... or if you're like me start to read, but then nap to. The playlist is also great for work if you're one of those people that can't have too much going on or they easily get distracted! (Not that I get distracted easily or anything...oh something with glitter!)

So without further ado.

The Civil Wars :: Poison & Wine
Whyyyyy must you be breaking up. Make it stop you two. You're like a mom and dad getting a divorce.
Ron Pope :: 65 More Years
God, I love Ron Pope. This song is so sappy and perfect.
Joshua Radin :: Winter
His first album is still his best album, hands down.
Jason Mraz ::After An Afternoon
One of his more underrated songs I think.
Birdy :: Skinny Love
Great rendition of Bon Iver's Skinny Love
The Avett Brothers :: January Wedding
One of their less known songs, but one of my favorites.
Lew Watson :: Sink Or Swim
Just can't stop listening to this youngin'
The Staves :: Mexico
The Staves make some beautiful music. This is one of those songs.
Sara Bareilles :: Gravity
Hands down my favorite Sara B song, which is saying something. Love her.
Green River Ordinance :: Dancing Shoes
This song just makes a person happy, and if it doesn't make you happy. Then you have a black heart.
Daughter :: Candles
love these lyrics: Just a young heart confusing my mind, but we're both in silence
The Lone Bellow :: Two Sides Of Lonely
This folk group is starting to blow up and it makes me happy :)
Houndmouth :: Houston Train
Speaking of bands blowing up. This is Brad's friend's band. They are awesome.
Deer Tick :: These Old Shoes
The lyrics. Fantastic. Doesn't everyone want to be loved this much?!
The Paper Kites :: Featherstone
Every time I hear this song or see the video, I feel like I am in Where The Wild Things Are
The Lumineers :: Slow It Down
The best Lumineers song in my humble opinion.
Bejnamin Francis Leftwich :: Pictures
Beautiful voice. Beautiful song.
Alexi Murdoch :: Orange Sky
The OC Soundtrack anyone?! Not that I found this song there when I originally bought that CD or anything...

Happy reading! Or Napping! Or Working! Or whatever it is you'll do while listening to this play list :)

Cheers,

<3 BB

is that country on my playlist?

Stop it, what is wrong with me. There are not one, but two country songs on my playlist this week. I think I might be sick ;) It might also have to do with the fact that my Sirius radio is officially gone in my car seeya never and I have been browsing the local radio stations on my way to work. Either way, I have come to the realization that I like listening to country music in the summer. It just reminds me of BBQs, road trips, going to the lake, and when I was a young high school gal without a care in the world ugh, who says that?

Fol Chen, you can owe me whatever you would like.
Ron Pope has a new CD coming out soon, SWOOOOOOON. Plus, this song says my name.
This group of 3 is from Sweden and in case you're not familiar the Sweeds do music right.
Another lady duo, I have been telling you, I can't get enough of female electric pop these days.
Guess what, this group is from Stockholm.  That's the capital of Sweden, if you're not good with geography.
Oh hey there country song, what are you doing on my playlist?
Sadly, it is looking like their new CD will be their last CD, the duo just doesn't get along. It's tragic.
Another country song, Brooke?! You really must not be feeling well. It's a good thing this playlist is over. You might want to go lay down and get some rest.

Cheers to Tunesday!

burfday week tunes

Hello my lovelies,

Is it Friday yet?! The extra special, it's my birthday, I get cake at the office Friday!!? I would like Tuesday to be over already. I think I may dislike it more than Monday (bold statement I know)...Plus, last night I was making dinner at the same time I was putting together my overnight oats for this morning's breakfast and somehow peppered my overnight oats instead of my dinner. FML. I didn't have another apple to start over / was lazy. So now as I sit here eating my oats and they taste funny... I wonder why. Ugh.

Let's just get to some music.

3 brothers in a band! Plus, the oldest is only 21. It's like Hanson, but good.
The Avett Brothers always make me happy and this John Prine cover is fabulous. It's just makes me want to move to the country. build a home. and eat some peaches.
Vancouver based band that I am digging these days. Not all Canucks are weird, eh?!
This song isn't new, in fact it's off their debut album, but I just love it every time I hear it and since it is my birthday week, I can make you listen to older songs if I want to.
Watch out for this guy, he is about to blow up. Plus, he is British and that's just 10 extra cool points. Although don't play it too loud among certain company there are curse words.
This song from the English duo is weird, but I can't stop listening to it. Oh electronic music, you make me happy. Not as happy as it makes Helene, but close.
I mean you pretty much have to like this band, just for their name.
These lyrics:
Well I think I know a remedy.
Just shake your arms and move your feet,
and pretty soon you will find a beat,
Find a beat,
And do what happens naturally.

Happy Tunesday!

Tunesday Struggles

Here are some things I'd like to share with you.

::I almost forgot that I have a Postal Service concert tomorrow night. Looks like I am staying out late on a school work night. Also reminds me I need to print my tickets.

::My Sirius radio expires on the 24th and I just can't justify spending money to renew it when I have things like Pandora and Songza...but I know I am really going to miss it a.lot. (Insert, my life is so hard, feel bad for me)

::Speaking of music apps, does anyone else Shazam a song and then go to their recent tags to realize you have already tagged the song like 4 different times?! No, just me?! I must not have a good memory or really like some new songs these days.

I can't get enough of female lead pop/electronic duos these days and Lucius is just that. Two little ladies just doing their thing.  Don't Just Sit There is super catchy and I dig it.
Oh weird, another song with a female lead singer. This is one of those songs that I kept Shazamming and then realized I already had 3 other times. Sorry, not sorry.
Amber of the Dirty Projectors can do no wrong in my eyes and I think she just takes this song to another level. Also digging the Jamaican vibes of this song.
Two things, when I Shazamed this song the other day, the album artwork that came up was Hunter Hayes. Not cool, Shazam, not cool. Also, Their name really is On An On, not And. Throws me off every time.
Loving this song for workouts. The song itself isn't over the top from the beginning, but it just keeps building and building and it helps keep my workout going. Plus Aloe Blacc is doing the vocals and I LURVE him.
I might like this Grouplove song more than their other single Colours which is saying something, because that song is effing catchy.
Taking it down a notch with this song, but it's still super catchy and I love Lewis' voice.
Gotta end with my Postal Service in honor of their concert I almost forgot about tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers to Tunesday!

tuesday tunesday :: contact high

Hello my favorite people, yes, you of the interwebs,

How are we doing this morning midday, afternoon, etc.?! Today I would like to introduce you to my buddy Allen Stone.  Ok, so we aren't technically buddies, but I  have seen him live multiple times, including this past weekend at the Blues Fest.

Plus, I did get a photo with him once.

#hipsters

Anyway, me going Fan Girl is not the point. The guy is kind of an oddball, but in the best way possible. He has some fantastic music, often with some great lyrics that go a little deeper than most music that is out there today.....Which brings me to today's Tunesday pick I have for you.  it's just one song today, but I want to talk about it a little bit. The song is called Contact High and no it's not about smoking weed, so don't get too excited.

Are you looking for peace of mind?
You won't find it in your status line,
What are you trying to prove?
Whose mountain are you trying to move?

Take a quick listen to this interview on why he wrote the song, then we can discuss.

Now before you start throwing glasses of wine at me and call me a hypocrite, or whatever it is you bloggers do when you're upset, hear me out. I understand the irony in my post and having a blog in general.

Buttttttt....Listening to this song makes me realize that I need to be better about investing in the moments that are currently happening, as opposed to trying to make a moment with my social media. Even this weekend for instance, I had just climbed to the top of a mountain with Brad that had beautiful views and you couldn't help but have a moment and be in awe up there and there I was trying to get enough service to post a photo on instagram Granted the photo turned out legit, but that's neither here nor there.  Chill the eff out, Brooke. There is such thing as a #latergram.  My point, and Allen's point too, I think, is it's one thing to be involved with social media, but it's a whole other thing to consume yourself with people that aren't even present at the time.

During his live performance on Friday he flat out said, please put away your phones for the rest of the show and make a moment with the people that are here.  So that is my challenge to you. Let's put our phones down a little more often, let's step away from the computer once in a while. Yes it's one thing to get a photo for the blog post, but don't sit on twitter the entire time you're out on a blate (blogger date) or night out with friends. It's rude and you should stay home if you think the internet is more interesting than your real life friends although depending on your friends, the internet might be cooler

Drops mic, walks away.

tunesday :: get sweaty

Last week I gave myself a pass and took it easy with workouts.  My body was tired after all the training in preparation for Tough Mudder and then it was extra spent after the race. I decided to give myself a few extra days off here and there.  Plus, with Brad's family in town, we were busy, on our feet all day, and walked a lot, which was great, but left little time for workouts.

Oh and did I mention all the food we ate?!  Lawd, it was good food, but eating out 2-3 meals a day for 4 days straight is not something my body was used to. Needless to say, I need to get my butt back in gear this week. Last night I did this at home workout (which means all of you can do it too! No equipment or gym needed.)

20 mins AMRAP (as many rounds as possible)
::5 burpees
::10 push-ups
::15 squats

I finished with 12 rounds, plus 3 more burpess in the 20 mins and I was feeling all the food and lackluster workouts from last week, but that's ok, I got it done and am feeling tiny bit better about my life today.

With getting fit in mind, I wanted to share some of my favorite songs as of late that I have been jamming to when I get my sweat on.

Gary Clack Jr. :: The Life
Lorde :: Royals
CHVRCHES :: Recover
Robyn :: Hang With Me
Lana Del Rey :: Blue Jeans - RAC Mix
Of Monsters And Men :: Little Talks
Kaskadem Mindy Gledhill :: Eyes
Robyn :: Call Your Girlfriend
Empire Of The Sun :: Walking On A Dream
Tegan And Sara :: Closer
Kanye West :: On Sight
Ellie Goulding :: Anything Could Happen
Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams :: Get Lucky
Justin Timberlake :: Suit & Tie
Bastille :: Pompeii
Get lucky sweaty!

tuesday tunesday :: 6.11.13

Hey. Hi. Hello.

I have a nice little mix on the docket for you today. Speaking of mixes, thinking about changing up Tuesday chill the eff out people, it's not leaving forever, just a different format, maybe. Would you guys like Tuesday better in a playlist format?  Thinking about using Spotify or something similar to just make playlists for you, but don't want to ruin everything you love about Tunesday ;) Let me know your thoughts, dreams, and aspirations.

Anyway, here are the tunes for this week. Enjoy, because I know I have been.

Damien Jurado :: Working Titles
Is there anything better than a KEXP version of a song? Didn't think so...

Flume feat Anthony of Cleopatra :: Sleepless
chilled to the max.

Chvrches :: The Mother We Share
Right now, Chvrches can do no wrong in my eyes. Can't get enough of their stuff.

Lorde :: Royals
I have posted this song before, but I love it too much and I think it's about to blow up so I wanted to share it again. #sorrynotsorry

Joy Kills Sorrow :: Wouldn't Have Noticed
This band features a lot of banjo, that's how you know they're good.

The Shouting Matches :: Gallup, NM
Bon Iver's side project and I don't hate it.

Cheers!

sprummer jamz for tunesday

Hello My Betches!

Good news, Tunesday is back!!! I know you all missed it last week  - ok, only one person said they missed it, but that is enough people for me :)

Since it is officially June, it means it is officially almost summer.  In honor of almost summer, sprummer, if you will, I have compiled a very sprummer inspired playlist. (ps. can't take credit for the word sprummer - spring / summer, I stole it from Heather, but she said I could borrow it, so it's cool, guys).

This is the type of song I can listen to on repeat and not notice it is my 5th time in a row listening to it. Love those kinds of songs.

'Effing catchy.  Heard this song on this playlist the other day. I don't watch the show Girls, but I feel like it has some good music and I should start.

Bastille - Thinkin' Bout You (Cover)
Holy Shit!!! Bastille, love! Frank Ocean, love! This cover, LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ellie Goulding :: Tessellate (Alt-J cover)Ellie Goulding does her thing with this Alt-J cover and I am a big fan.  Her voice is so original, but it still has that great Alt-J vibe.

The Limousines have a new album out soon and this is their first track off it.  Very summery vibe, very Limousines vibe, but I think I am liking it.

If this song doesn't make you feel 17 again and ready for summer break, then you're doing it wrong.

And just because this stupid song has been stuck in my head since Sunday night, I want you to share my pain.

Damn you, Selenas! Na, na, na, nah!

Cheers to Spummer!!

tunesday - cali edition

So, I am not sure what is so special about this Cali girl that everyone writes songs about, but I figured I should share them for Tunesday since I am going to visit her this week. Oh, and right now, the weather is calling for a high of 66 when we're down there. I can get that weather back in Oregon.  Better step up your game Cali, cause this girl just bought a new bathing suit and she plans to wear it.

Let's begin, shall we?!

Ron Pope :: Come To California
I'll come to California for you, Ron.

Coconut Records :: West Coast
Now technically, this doesn't specifically talk about Cali, but one can only assume they are referring to her when they say West Coast.

Death Cab For Cutie :: 405 (acoustic)
Another Death Cab song that makes you want to cry, weird. - said no one, ever

Kings of Leon :: California Waiting
Old school Kings of Leon is way better than any of their new stuff.

Vampire Weekend :: California English
Do we even know what they're saying in half of this song?

Jack's Mannequin :: Miss California
I mean, Jack's Mannequin actually references Cali as a female in this song. So there's that.
