Well, Isn't This Post Ironic?

I wanted to link up with Amanda to share my favorite video of the week. I am sure most of you have seen this video by now. It has been viral all over the internet this week, but I need to share it again. Yes, I know sharing it and making you watch it via my blog is slightly ironic with the message it shares. But this message...this message needs to be heard, over and over and over.

Blogging is a funny thing. You talk and interact with people you have never met in real life. You might even know more about their daily schedules, their fears, and their dreams more than you know about your 'closest friends' in real life, the ones you interact with daily. We have stopped looking people in the eyes. We have distracted conversations, where no one is really paying attention to people. We are slaves to technology and self promotion.

'We're a generation of idiots. Smart phones and dumb people.'

The thing is, I totally support the internet and blogging and what it can bring to people. However, I 100% agree we need to put down our phones and our ipads more. I 100% support being present in the moment. So, as much as I love this little space of the internet that I call mine..I also love the real people in my life. I am so excited to spend the weekend with people I love and engage with them without being distracted by my phone and I hope you do the same.

And for a little #backthatazzup Friday jam with Whitney, I want you to hear this new single by Sam Smith. He is legit. Stay With Me is the new single for his upcoming album.  You can check out his other stuff here. Plus, the lyrics about staying with a person and being all they need seem a little fitting with today's post. Enjoy.

Don't Miss Chances.

I so agree with the movie and your post. it's hard to not get caught up in blogland and the internet when it's EVERYWHERE. But, I find that the small moments of laughter between friends is the best thing :)!

Dread is a strong word, but I'm definitely not looking forward to family time this weekend because my whole family is obsessed with their phones, tagging everyone on facebook, and posting pictures everywhere so that the people who are SITTING IN FRONT OF THEM can like them. I haven't watched this video (I rarely watch any) but it sounds like it might be worth a share on facebook so they see it! Have a great weekend!

I couldn't agree more with you, that video, and this post. It's so easy to get caught up in social media/technology that we lose touch with things that are actually important like family and friends. I've had to make it a point to put my phone down, and it's sad that it's gotten that bad. I shouldn't have to remind myself to do that. It should come naturally. Also, I was just telling my mom about how I think all of this technology has made us, well let's say it nicely, not as smart as we could be. You know? I can't remember anything to save my life, thank goodness for reminders on my iPhone.. but I should be able to remember that. But I rely so much on my phone that I don't exercise that part of my brain, if that makes sense. I better stop, or I could go on for days ;D Hope you have a freaking amazing weekend!!

I felt it was strange that I watched that video the same day I sat down and watched "Her". Have you seen it? Totally goes to show that we are all just isolating ourselves more and more everyday. Which makes us kind of miss out on a lot!

I love that video. Gave me chills! Blogging definitely makes me more obsessed with my phone than the average person I think. Every time I hear that ding because I got a new email I have to check it right then. It can wait! I'm working on it!

I have really been focusing on paying less attention to my phone lately. I think we all get in this rut where we are constantly relying on it and we just need to enjoy life!!!

Have a great weekend!

Just saw that video yesterday and I put it in my bookmarks bar. Such a strong reminder. Loved that Sam Smith song. I just discovered James Blake's Retrograde song and have been playing it on repeat all week. I'm not super with it when it comes to music!

But I usually look down as to not trip over my feet. I look forward at my cell to take selfies. duh.

Every once in awhile I forget my phone and I never seem to miss it after that little panic thing that happens. "Look up" is a great message!

Thanks for sharing. :)

I hadn't seen that video until now, which is not surprising as I live under a rock. But I LOVE it. I think about this all the time and the impact technology is having on society and relationships. I love blogging and the internet for the friends it has brought into my life (that I now hang out with in person!), but I hate what it also takes away from my daily life. So good. And now I will not be touching my phone for the rest of the day.

Ah, I love this. Something I really enjoy about living abroad is that people really enjoy spending time together face-to-face. Most of the time when we go out with friends, no one will even look at their phone until the end of the night! Definitely makes for more fun when we are all present!

I definitely needed that video today, so thank you. I hadn't seen it until now! We definitely are becoming a generation full of dumb people.

First time I heard Mr. Sam Smith as well...I like it.

Finally watched that video. Gave me chills. I've been thinking about technology a lot lately and its affect on conversations with people. There is someone I'm friends with that I used to razz about always being on her phone, one day she told me that was just the way it was and she wasn't going to change it. So I've got used to her always being on the phone when we are together… which makes me jump on mine when we are together… which made it a habit when I am around others. I'm trying not to continue it. :(
