balance, you fickle thing

So my girls Rebecca, Chelsea, and Jessi are hosting a challenge for the month of July and today's prompt had to do with balance.
Balance: What brings balance to your life? A favorite workout? Book? Specific location? A person or animal? Share with us how you bring balance to your life.
Balance is funny. There are so many things in my life I am trying to balance and I feel the list keeps growing as I get older.

//The balance of work and play (this scale is shifting even more now that I have started a second job)
//The balance of fitness and relaxation
//The balance of being the best person I can be for others versus for myself.
//The balance of healthy eating and the occasional yummy treat.
//The balance of being connected with technology and knowing when to disconnect.

I could go on and on and on, but I won't waste my time, because you know...balance

I can say after my first week at my new job balancing my life just got a little bit harder. However, my goal is to be smarter with my time and the choices in my life. I mentioned Tuesday that I may not be around this space quite as often, because I need to devote my time to other priorities for a bit. It was weird not posting yesterday, but it was also necessary for my balance.  I am quickly realizing I will have to pick and choose what is extra important to me when it comes to my time and here are the things I know I will never give up when it comes to living a healthy, happy, balanced life.

//My people
//My fitness
//My health
//My me time
//My things that make me happy (which includes my blog)

So my question to you is, what keeps your life in balance?

Cheers!

<3 BB

I try not to let staying balanced stress me out too much, seeing as how that would defeat the whole purpose of balance, wouldn't it?! I think I have the hardest time balancing between eating healthy and enjoying all the yummy things while being social. Also, I probably spend too much time watching TV during the week. Oops!

I totally relate to this post. I just interviewed for a second job this past Tuesday. I walked out knowing I nailed it, but at the same time think (what did I just do?? Aug and Sep will be my busiest months this year and here I am throwing more on top of it???). But it really is all about choosing what is best, right?

So here's to more money and better time management skills! oh, and to balance. =)

So I was told by a medical professional my senior of college that I don't get stressed in my head, but that signs of stress exhibit themselves in my body. She called it "latent stress." So, basically, my body has been reacting to stress for a long, long time before my brain catches up. Kind of weird, huh? But what I've worked on (and continue to work on!) is paying attention to my body. Are my shoulders tense? My neck? Have I been getting more headaches or am I physically exhausted even though I haven't worked out in ages? #oops Anyway, the point of this is, I think "balance" is all about learning yourself instead of trying to achieve a balance of activities or interests. If you're in-tune with your needs, it's not difficult to balance the rest. You know that if you're exhausted, it won't do any good to keep pushing through because your work suffers, so sleep in instead of getting up that extra hour early to work or whatever. Does that make sense? This comment has kind of turned into a post of it's own. haha.
In any case, my favorite quote of all time is "To try to be better IS to be better." If you're trying for balance, you're most of the way to being balanced (IMO). :)

I think imbalance sometimes keeps our lives balanced so we can see what's out of place. or is that weird to say? maybe that's why I'm so off my rocker.

I love this post. :) Balance is really important but we're not always going to be perfect. It's good to know what helps bring you back to feeling balanced/centered, and everyone is different. I love my "me time"... when life seems busy or stressful and I'm doing a lot of social or work things then I usually recharge by relaxing on my own (reading, laying down, watching tv, or going to the gym).. My dad is very into yoga and meditation. :)

Every time anything new comes into my life, like a job, I question everything about balance in my life. It's a vicious cycle, and I don't know if we'll ever actually feel totally balanced.

Finding balance is always the goal. I've finally realized that "me time" is essential to maintaining the balance because if I don't find time for it then I'm a miserable bitch during all my other activities.

Balance is something that I feel like can slip away so quickly and almost imperceptibly if we're not paying close attention, and then it can be almost impossible to get back. You seem to have a pretty good grasp from here, so I say keep doin what you're doin :)

Gah such an easy question to ask but not an easy one to answer! I think an obtainable goal list is my #1 balance-keeper. It gives you something to work toward and focus on. Whambam.

balance? haha i just get up and go each day and see what it brings. maybe its because I am not married and only have two dogs a bf to worry about, but my balance is just a feeling that when i am too stressed, i need to slow down.

i'm the worst with balance. i always say i dont have enough time for this or that, yet i spend most hours of my home time on my ass in front of a computer. so i need to work on that and actually start doing things, like working out, cleaning, etc.

I am constantly struggling with balance (we all are right???). I think in order to feel balanced I need to be working towards a goal but also give myself time to enjoy the moment (aka not looking towards the future).

balance can sometimes be tough and during times when things are crazy, you have to put things on the backburner for a bit. for me, that item usually is blogging! i value my me and family time so those will always come first.

so blog when you can; we will always be here :)
