So, I had a different post lined up for today, but then this happened...As I have mentioned before, I am slowly trying to be a grownup. This transformation has included listening to NPR on the drive in to my adult desk job. Well today, I realized I am just not a full grownup yet, when I kept laughing at the piece they had on geoducks in the Northwest. Not sure if you have ever seen a geoduck, but they have to be the least attractive shell fish, ever. The chef of Seattle's restaurant, How To Cook A Wolf describes them as this:
“This is going to get a little raunchy. As you can see the geoduck is a very phallic looking animal,” he said, standing in the stainless steel kitchen as two large clams sat on a shelf nearby, their foot-long siphons draping down.“So what we do is we bring them in, let them relax a little bit, let them go down and get out to its natural length,” Gifford quips. These necks can stretch to a meter in length.Don't worry, I got you this photo from this article, just in case you don't know what they look like.
Can't make this stuff up, people. Evidently, I still have the humor of a 13 year old boy; not sure that will ever change either. Anyway, knowing what the geoduck looks like and laughing at the piece on the radio today, I realized I still have a lot of growing up to do. I'll try better tomorrow.
PS. Sorry you had to read this, Grandma and Mom.
Cheers!

before i even read your post explaining what a geoduck was, i just looked at it and burst out laughing, giggling at the "penis" i was seeing before i realized it was a clam. and with that, i'm gonna go google fart jokes because I'm a 12 year old boy.
hahahaha wow. did not know these existed. but yeah. pretty phallic looking!

I've never even heard of it! That's kind of hilarious though. Score one for trying to be an adult.
So I've seen these on Top Chef but they cut them so they just look like tubes... make sense. The real thing would probably be censored on TV...
Just in case the picture didn't crack me up enough, the words "largest burrowing clam" did. me. in.
hahaha what the hell is that?!
We are so immature. I laughed out loud.
day = made.
I laughed too. Grow up? Pfft. Never!
lol, how informative. thank you for this.
Uhhhh.... LOL.
We are all children deep down, you know every visitor has thought the same thing about this.
I've lived around and known about geoducks my whole life, and I still laugh at the sight of them :D I am very much childish about it ha ha!
gross.
and that person touched it.
I mean...how could anyone look at a picture of one of these things and not revert to their inner 13 year old boy???
And this is why I prefer it when someone else prepares my food. I giggle every time Tyson makes something with enoki mushrooms.
I have always always always thought those things were super weird... saw them on Chopped once...
feedly just shows an image of a hand holding what looks like to be a very long and thin penis. i immediately thought to myself: oh man, this is going to be good! ignored every other blog and went straight to yours haha! well played, B, well played.

I loaded your blog page, and placed my computer next to me for a second. My boyfriend passed me and looked from the computer to me with wide eyes. Imagine having to explain that one...
"let them relax a little bit, let them go down & get out to its natural length"?? Did he really need that description? Did it enhance the visual?
HA! So funny! That picture is great!!
Yeah, so I was pretty sure that was a giant dong when I clicked on your post haha these things are cray.
I wasn't sure if this was a dick or a leg... YOWZA! Turns out, it's a clam. ;P
The best part is that it's pronounced gooey-duck. True life.
Vom-it.
SO SCIENCE RIGHT NOW. Geoducks are the source of endless giggles, always. I can't even believe people eat them.
