Tuesday Tunesday :: 2.5.13

You want to know what the best life decision I made this week was? (Bold statement to make as it is only Tuesday, I know.) Taking the day off from the gym yesterday and hitting up Mellow Mushroom's Happy Hour with a few friends since I had time to kill before picking Bradley up from the airport.

The good part is I had gotten some good workouts in over the weekend and didn't feel too guilty about the amount of carbies I consumed... That was until I headed to my Grandparent's house to visit with them after HH and Grandma had made a huge dinner...Couldn't offend her by not eating some right?! Wrong  Two meals later I was feeling full, guilty, and ready for bed, but still had to wait until 10pm for his flight to land. Best GF of the Year Award goes to: this girl

I am a happy girl now that the apartment is no longer quiet.  I enjoyed some solo-dolo time, but am glad he is back and I have someone to watch the Bachelor visit with.

Here are my thoughts wrapped up into one corny printable you can buy on etsy.

Anyway, enough of my blabbing, let's get to the important stuff this fine Tuesday... MUSIC! I went to finish up the post this morning and realized I had stockpiled a lot of music for you this week.  Hope you enjoy!

Penny and Sparrow :: Creature
I'm a creature for your love. Big fan of those lyrics, it reminds me of how we are a little bit (or a lot a bit in my case) creatures of habit. I read that this band has some pretty big ties to faith in their music, but at the end of the day, the great thing about music and lyrics is you can interpret it however you need.

Flightless Bird :: Iron & Wine
I have been in an Iron & Wine mood lately. I blame January. Not that being in an Iron & Wine mood is a bad thing, but just that their music can give off a very January Grey type of vibe sometimes.

Iron & Wine :: 4AD Session
Like I said, Iron & Wine kind of mood. Also, the first song in the set is my favorite Iron & Wine song of all time.  Super nostalgic and I think it's safe to say everyone has an experience like the one he is describing.

Sleeping At Last :: Turning Page
Some of you Twilight fans might recognize this song and for those of you who have not see the movies, give it a chance in spite of KStew.  It's beautiful.

Robin Thicke :: Lost Without U
Taking it back a bit here with this baby makin' jam.  Popped up on my shuffle the other day and took me back to college.  My old roomie and I used to rock out to this song in my car. Gosh it just never gets old for me.

The Lighthouse and the Whaler :: Under Mountain, Under Ground
My friend Creshea reminded me about this band.  She has good taste in music, guys! This is one of my faves by them, but check out the rest of their work.  You won't be disappointed.

The Neighbourhood :: Sweater Weather
This song is fitting right now, because it really is too cold for you here.

Goldroom :: Fifteen
This song makes me wish it were summer.  I think it's the synth that helps This remix is also good, if you're into that kind of thing. Oh, and Creshea also suggested this band too -we have good taste, get used to it.

Annnnd lastly, happy birthday to one of my favorite blogger friends, Kait. I hear Baltimore is throwing a Parade in her honor today..... Or maybe it was for the Super Bowl win... details, shmetails.

Either way - HAPPPPPY BIRTHDAY! Eat cake for me!!!!!

Enjoy the music and hint of sunshine while it lasts!

1.22.2013

Tuesday Tunesday :: 1.22.13

Sorry I was gone yesterday, I was busy celebrating MLK the only way he would have wanted: with pizza and beer at Mellow Mushroom with Jessi and a few others! Okay, that might not be what Martin quite had in mind, but that is what I did with my lovely, extra day this weekend and I have him to thank for it!

Anyways, let's get to some good music :)

The Ultimate Bearhug :: Foolish Things
My friend Creshea shared this band with me.  Love her gritty vibe and can we talk about their name?! I mean who doesn't want their band name to be The Ultimate Bearhug!?!?

Miles Fisher :: New Romance
Miles Fisher is an odd dude.  I was first introduced to him when he was the opening act for Kelley James at a show I saw when I lived in SoCal.  Not only does he look like Tom Cruise, but his videos are off the wall. They are often full on productions, like this take on Saved By The Bell or in another video of his he recreates American Psycho.  Crazy stuff, but it's really good.

The Apache Relay :: Home Is Not Places
I first heard this song probably about 6 months ago and then kind of forgot about it.  That will happen when you listen to as much music as I do.  Back to my story, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy this song when it started playing on my starred list from Spotify. It's the lyrics that I am a fan of: home is not places, it is love. I have been in a real corny mood lately when it comes to my music so lyrics like that really stick out to me. Not sure why, but I am not complaining either.

Horse Feathers :: Curs In The Weeds
Stole this video from this link.  Plus, you can't go wrong with a local Portland band.

Sin Fang :: Look At The Light
The band Seabear shared this song on their facebook the other day and I was a big fan.

Biffy Clyro :: Black Chandelier
Biffy, here, reminds me of The Snow Patrol a bit and there is nothing wrong with that. Although, I would suggest they get shirts for their next video.  Maybe I am wrong?

HAIM :: Don't Save Me
takemeback, t-t-t-takemeback... That line is just so catchy.  And I think this YouTube comment said it all:

Chris25uk:
In a world of plastic, auto-tuned, fake-tanned, ill-mannered, sluttish and vulgar female artists, it is delightfully pleasant to have a down-to-earth girl band, with lyrics which actually mean something and signers who can actually sing.

Cheers to MLK!

Timbers and Pizza!

Brad and I had tickets to the Portland Timbers vs DC United game this weekend, which was a pretty big deal for Brad since he used to work for DCU before he moved out to Oregon.  The game was an evening game so we had a chance to get food before we headed to the stadium.

A few weeks ago I had picked up a Groupon for the pizza joint / bar called Mellow Mushroom.

I had been hearing really good things about the place and it did not disappoint. We tried a few beers with their paddle option and ordered the Funky Q Chicken.  Evidently, the first location was out on the East Coast and its dough was made with spring water from Vermont, so now all of the restaurants get the special water shipped in from the same spring for the dough, which is pretty cool and the dough is uh-mazing!

We walked off our dinner and headed up to the stadium which was only a few blocks away.

Brad was torn on what outfit to wear, because he is a girl in the army you are supposed to be a Timbers Supporter, they even email you and tell you not to wear opposing team apparel. However, DCU holds a very special place in his heart since he worked for their front office.  He eventually decided on a not too flashy DCU shirt with a Timbers scarf.

The National Anthem is always my favorite at the Timbers games. It literally gives me chills every time. I am a sucker for a good Anthem, it takes me back to my athletic days and I always get a little bit of butterflies as if I am the one about to complete.  The Portland crowd sings with the performer and at the end of this game everyone threw streamers, it looked awesome.

DCU went up 1-0 with a questionable handball call and the oh so attractive Chris Pontius scored off the penalty kick.  Luckily, the Timbers came back to tie the game up and it ended in a 1-1 tie.

The above smoke makes it hard to breathe, so we pretended to be bandits for a bit.

All in all, I am secretly glad they tied, DCU left with a point, Timbers are still not out of the playoff running, and then Brad didn't have to choose a winner or a loser side.  Plus I got to watch DCU's coach Ben Olsen in action and he is my favsies.  Gotta love a well dressed coach, especially when I think he and Brad kind of look like they could be related.

We are on the waiting list to get season tickets for next year, cross your fingers we are high enough on it to get a pair and maybe I will take you to a game with me if you're lucky !

Cheers to Soccer hotties!
